Try to organize as you clean so that it's not such a chore everytime. This might mean buying some things to sort your stuff (magazine rack, recycle bins, rubbermaid containers, hooks, coat rack, etc). Also if you come across things as you are cleaning that you haven't used in a year and have no immediate plans to use, toss or donate it.

As far as "clean" cleaning, it will be easier once things are tidy (which is why I put the first paragraph in my answer). I would say, start at the dirtiest (usually the bathroom) and try to do a little at a time, maybe even during the commercials of a show you're watching. Spray the tub and toilet with cleaner and let it sit until the next commercial. This way the cleaning is not taking up your whole day, just the annoying commercial time. I also try to clean the bathroom while I'm dying my hair.

Decluttering is like eating an elephant: you can't do it in one bite; you have to do it one small bite at a time.

Pick one room. Start at the door. Work in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. Have three boxes ready, labeled "trash" "donate" and "relocate". Pick up an item. Does it belong there? No? If it's trash, put it in the trash box. If it's something you don't want but it's still usable, it goes in the donate box. You want it but it just doesn't belong where it was? Put it in the relocate box. This is important: don't immediately put that item where it belongs; you will just get distracted.

Repeat for each item you pick up. Empty the trash box as needed; bag up the donation items, and return the relocate items to their proper home AS YOU COME TO THEM.

Keep repeating, going around the room, until you're back at the door. This could take an hour, several hours, or even a few days. But eventually you will finish. Do each room this way and you will have a tidy, organized home.

And yes, Flylady is wonderful.

Start in the bathroom, it is the smallest room in the house...Spray toilet,sink,bathtub,counters... let the spray sit while you clear out under the counter, throw out everything you haven't touched in the last year...Clean the mirrors, tub, sink and tolit, any pictures you may have on the walls... and now do the floor... Now stand back and look at it sparkle (take a picture if you like) you may never see it this shinny again hehehe...

Tomorrow start on the bedrooms, 1 room at a time... toss out everything, you haven't seen in a year.. ( people have more STUFF then they need)

Living room, hallways, dust vacuum, clean pictures mirrors, pick dead leaves of plants (wash the outsides of plant pots) TV screen

Last of all - do the kitchen, this is the most time consuming room to clean, also you will find while you are busy cleaning the other rooms, a lot of "STUFF" gets put in the kitchen...

Make sure you have all the sprays. cleansers, broom, mop, paper towels, old rags in the room you are cleaning - so you won't be running back and forth for cleaners...

Turn on some tunes and go to town - have fun...

First rule:

Don't try to do it all at once.

Rule 2:

Take one room at a time and dispose of all the junk you don't need. The things you want to keep will sort themselves out once you have tossed junk.

Rule 3. Take a break. Think about it and figure out a place for everything essential. Then act on it and get things straightened up in this room.

Remember, your house didn't get this way overnight.

Well, maybe it did. Are you cleaning up after a big blast at your house? No?

Ok, well, don't try to do the whole house in one day. Easy does it.

Just do one room a day and remember to toss what you don't need. That is where clutter comes from. If you don't need it, get rid of it!!

Now, get crackin'!!! LOL

take a little at a time and start in just one room. Throw out or sell things you no longer want or use. Take a break (even if it is a couple of days) and then go to the next room that bugs you the most. Keep at it, and clean up as you go once you get one room under control. Happy cleaning!

Just do it a little at a time. If you try to make yourself clean your whole house in one go the very thought of it is going to repulse you. Try one room a day, and don't let yourself do anything fun until you get it done.

Clean it up then spray air freshener if it smells. It might take a long time but it's worth it. Good luck!
