The key that could not be opened refers to the system's registry. The registry is information that basically tells the computer much of what t do. If it is messed with, your machine could become useless.

Assuming that you run Windows XP, make sure you are trying to install iTunes with an administrator account as limited ones cannot modify the registry.

If you are running under windows XP, make sure you are on an Administrator account to be able to install any kind of software.

If this is not the problem, check you tried to install the Windows version of Itunes (if you have windows).

Are you on a Mac? It sounds like your computer requires a password n order to download software. if this is not the case, then call Apple support. 1-800-275-2273. They're fast and friendly. Or go online http://www.apple.com/support/

your probably logged into the computer using login that has limited privileges. Whoever gave you your username on that computer, have them make sure you have authority to install software.

Uninstall Quicktime and then try to install iTunes and Quicktime.
