Not much, Physicists teach at West Point, and in general may help conduct research and development at the Army Research Lab. But this research is limited to the refinement of nuclear weapons, nuclear energy, and nuclear radiation. Sometimes they consult on policy issues concerning nuclear proliferation.
There aren't very much opportunities for physicists in the Army.
I know because I am in the Army and I'm trying to pursue my Ph.D. in Physics.

here's a clue...ammunition , missiles, hazardous materials...gases , ( IE: agent orange ) all are composed of Chemical compounds it should make sense to a lay person that logically the equation why + needs / use analysis = Physicists in the army needed.... As far as occupational titles that is confidential , top secret information. each branch of service has different ID codes for the position...what you can bet for certain is anyone in this position is an officer as degrees in the hard sciences is a requirement for the position. Hope this helps..

Those who do not teach are CONTRACTED therefore not in the Army but used by the Army for research and development as mentioned above. Private companies follow their own hierarchy, not a government designated title ie. Senior Scientist and/or Project Leader.

One possibility would be DARPA: Defense Advance Research and Projects Administration. Basically, the people that develop our next-gen weaponry/technology. A physist may also end up working with nuclear plants, possibly ship-board (Naval).
