Wow.

At your age and probable income I would save up and pay CASH for a nice used Accord or Camry.

Don't get into the rut of car payments and DON'T ever lease a car.

i know about this teenage lingo (was one not too long ago) but urs is pretty bad.

anywho....since its your first car, there are several thigns to consider. If your parents are afraid of damage, consider a used car for a couple years...that way, its cheap even if you get in an accident (knock on wood). Make sure you have the car inspected before buying. Dont get too cheap though...that probably means its on the verge of breaking.

Also, consider a car with high safety rating (look up consumer magazines for ratings) so until you get more experience, youre on the safer side.

And then... make sure the car is automatic because ... you need more training for manual. I prefer 4 wheel drive for stability during the icy winter but depends on your climate.

No jeep, SUV, van etc because...those tend to flip more easily.

In my opinion, a honda civic hybrid is pretty economical...in comparision to the regular honda civic, it saves only a little bit more gas but you'll be doing the environment a service.

and some people have problem backing in so if you're one of those people, buy a car with no back. If ytou tend to bring a lot of stuff with you everywhere, consider an outback (has a bigger back)

I can tell you from being a auto repair tech for over 15 years that dependability and ease of mainence is more important than "bling" I recommend Nissan altima up to about 1999 (4 cylinder)
toyota makes a darn good vehicle corolla in the years of about 1998 and up
Check with Consumer reports and ask mechanics at the dealerships where your looking as to how they think of the vehicle your considering.

You can't go wrong with a Chevy Cavalier. The 2.2 engine is great on gas and has good power and the car looks good too. Also the insurance is cheap and so is the maintenance.
They have a 6 cyl version called the Z24. Here's a pic so you can go to the website and check it out.

Look on the left of the screen and look at the styles from 2000 to present day. They really are good cars And look good too.

The best thing to do is to buy a car buying guide and look for the best cars in them. Find one you like among the best, and get that.

I can already tell you though that I think you should take a look at these two:

Toyota Corolla
Honda Civic.

You will see that all guide books in the whole world list these two as the best compact cars.
