I think...I think...I think I'll have another beer. And that's the truth.

Repent.

It's not something I can tell anyone to do, but I can do it.

Ever try to not sin?

I can tell you, it doesn't work.

and so there is a war. Between the flesh and the Spirit. God's spirit counteracts the desires of the flesh. And as increasing faith comes to the constant application of it, the flesh may lose for a while.

Eventually the confidence in the word of God wins out, though at times the flesh gives itself a feast.

And so the renewing of the spirit continues with the reapplication of faith.

Note: sin is NOT the focus. It's Christ. It doesn't mean that you will not sin, it only means that you have the desire to be rid off it at times.

So we are all slaves to sin, by the words of Jesus. But we are all not trying to be with Him. Boil it down. The ones that are wanting to be with God are the ones that hate themselves. The ones that love God more than themself. That's what a Christian is.

It's simple, cultivate a mind that is free from the disturbing thoughts that lead to "sin" or wrong actions.

If you think about it "sin" or wrong action is a thought that begins in your mind and until you work to subdue the mind that engages in such thinking (which eventually turns into actions) then you're literally a slave to your own mind. Either you take the upper hand and cultivate a calm mind or you're a slave to your deluded thinking.

Let's start by backing up to John 8:31

"31)Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ya my disciples indeed.
32)And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
33)They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye Shall be made free?
34)Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35)And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36) If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed."

What this is saying is that even though we are free to make our own decision (slaves to no man), we are enslaved by the sins that we commit and therefore, cannot enter Heaven on our own.
However, Jesus abides in Heaven forever and never committed a sin. If you believe in Him as your Savior, then he will set you free from your enslavement to sin.

This does not mean that you won't sin again. It simply means that if you do sin, and repent of it and ask forgiveness from God, then the sin is forgiven and you are not trapped by it.

Religion is a solution in search of a problem (or more accurately, a FINAL solution for believers to inflict upon non-believers).

The godbots are insistent on telling others how to live, yet if you examine them and their own lives, they're the least likely to live by "god's" word:

- Ted Haggard "getting tweaked and sodomized" (as Jon Stewart put it)
- catholic priests diddling with kids
- Dennis Rader, the BTK serial killer who is a christian
- Adolf Hitler and his "gott mitt uns" ("god is with us")
- the KKK
- Jerry Falwell barring blacks from his church until a judge said he couldn't
- Pat Robertson advocating the assassination and murder of Hugo Chavez while at the same time doing business with Charles Taylor (who is facing a war crimes trial)

Etc., etc., etc. The godbots should clean up their own house before criticizing other people.

What would you like to do in response to that Bible passage? You can accept it and try to understand it more thoroughly, or you can argue against it, or you can put it as a logo or somesuch on all your e-mail and snail-mail, or you can lease a billboard and put it on there. OR, you can read the subsequent couple of passages and you can more fully understand what Jesus was trying to tell His "audience". I think to read the paragraph immediately prior to your citation and then the subsequent couple of verses following your citation might give you a fuller understanding of the one sentence you chose to discuss. I'm not sure what you want to do with it. God Bless you.

Simple enough; your sinful nature will control you.
Repent, turn away from your sins and do them no more.

Pray and try to do God's will in all things and accept the sacrifice of Jesus' perfect human life on your behalf.

Christianity is built around a foundation of guilt. That's one of the elements it uses to control its believers.
