my fav of those is the cockerspaniel

but you should just select the one you feel more comfortable, and who will most likely give you what you want

in general, each breed has its own unique temperament

research a little each breed and its personality, and select the one you see as the one closest to what you like

By far the Lab, i have owned tons of different breeds and although I loved the dog I never fell inlove with a breed until I met and then got my first Lab. They are the most trainable, loving, versatile, devoted, affectionate, loyal dog. I would never be without one again and it is no wonder why they are the number dog in households as well as in service work.
Cocker Spaniels can be a little too tempermental, and I like bigger dogs.
Newfoundlands are awesome but the drool too much and their coats takes lots of work.
Huskies are way to hyper and can be difficult to train.
Basset Hounds too many health problems and are not active enough for my lifestyle.
Poodles are too sissy and goofy looking, I dislike the little ones.
Shitzu not very intelligent good for a lap dog hard too train but not good for an active lifestyle.

Basset Hound Most definantly. They can melt your heart with one look. The sad eyes and floppy ears are cute. Not only are they cute, they are smart and unbelieveably loyal.

Bassets are not aggressive dogs. They are perfect for somene who wants and medium sized snuggle bug.

Ive had my basset for about 2 years now. she walked up to my door on the day of my grandma's funeral. She was sick and skinny. I got her cleaned up and healthy. She sleeps with me everynight. She usually follows me around the house and waits at the door for me to come home. I don't know what I'd do without her.

Bassets are good for laidback lifestyles. Health issues occur when they are not taken care of correctly, as in any dog. Lacie Lucy LuLu, my basset came to me with an ear infection, which the vet said was from improper care. Just because Bassets are laidback, doesnt mean they don't need exercise, a nice walk everyday is great...and they will enjoy it.

Cockerspaniels are cute, but way too common, as with labs..plus many labs ( NOT ALL) are hyper. Poodles can actually be fiesty. Huskies are GORGEOUS! But they have a higher chance of lashing out and attacking other animals.

SHI TZU- near impossible to train.

Newfoundlands- love the breed...great with kids and people...but their coat is hard to maintain...i takes time and $$$

Ive had plenty of dogs, but bassets are my personal favorite.

Depends what you want from a dog, but here's my take on it (I've owned a few of these):

Cocker Spaniels are really cute. I like them. They can be a little nervous though. Ours used to pee every time someone knocked on the door.

Newfoundlands are big dogs. They will go through a LOT of food.

Siberian's need to be kept on a leash or in a confined area. They will run away if given the chance.

Don't know much about Basset hounds.

Labs are fun dogs, but they are big and need a lot of play the first two years. They can trash your house and exhaust you. It might be nice if they had another dog to play with.

Poodles are smart, but the little toy poodles can be yappy. Poodles can also be a little mean if not trained right.

Shih Tzu's (we have one) are brainless but fun little doggies.

I guess if I was going to pick anything, I'd go with a Shih Tzu. They're fun little critters, easy to take care of, and happy in their ignorance. I like them.

Newfoundland because there like a big friendly bear. There huge and love everyone and everything. They also love to fetch and swim which is great cuz i love to too (well not the fetching but watching the dog fetch.) The problem is they need TONS of room and dont live so long like 7 to 10 years.
