Ohhh everyone please answer?
okay well i have a dog that is a Beagle and is protective and barks when people come in the houe. My sister is bringing her little fragile toy dog and im afraid of what will happen and my dog isnt around other dogs, so im not sure how he would react. My dog isnt violent at all, he just barks a little. But im just curious as to what i could do to help of both of theses dogs. They're in the same situation basically.

Barking is a sign of excitement, in most cases. A vicious aggressive dog rarely barks, perhaps snarles before attacking. Beagles are usually very friendly laid back dogs.

He will be no doubt curious of the other dog, but do not pull him violently away from it, and do not shout. Be nice to him as he meets the other dog. He will associate the other dog with nice experiences. Also, bigger dogs rarely attacks small ones. You may find that it may be the smaller dog that is likely to be more aggressive. It is their inferiority complex, and "defence" mechanism. They believe that "If I bark first, (or even attack) I will be o.k.".

The importnat thing for owners is to remain calm when dogs meet. Introduce them slowly.

Also, it is bad to be picking a dog up, the other dog will be keen to get to it, and the picked up dog will feel threatened, vulnerable, and may react aggressively. Keep them on leads, but let them see each other at an even level, and if they are fine, then let them get closer, and eventualy let them mix. Throughout that time speak to them very nicely and praise them greatly.

Good luck. Remember this rule: Dogs are much nicer to one another than people.

If you separate them that's really not going to help b/c the scent will be in the house. Don't let the other dog scent get on you, it could make your dog even madder.
