Hi dear friend
I'm a medical student, as my knowledge you should be afraid of that till you don't have any contact with that pus,but if so you should rapidly wash your body, but don't be worry because cancer is not an infection disease but surly the pus include some microbs, just wash the pus by a hcl or alcohol.
In cancer familial disease I think it's a few related between your grandparents.
in many cases the doctors test the contents of pus you may ask your grandfather doctor for more information.
have great time
happy new year

It sounds like your grandfather smoked quite heavily in his day.
The cancer may be in his lungs or throat...his dr would know this
so you should ask him. You said he has a tube so am assuming he has been, or is, in a hospital. Having had cancer....I cannot donate blood so anything viable (living) would be a risk if you had contact by an open sore or ingestation. I suggest you wear the rubber gloves when cleaning him and such. Sounds cold, but it is in your best interest health wise. I have lost over 10 close relatives to cancer...it runs on both sides of the family. My heart goes out to you. Keep your faith and love...it will get you through this.

OK, The mucoid material is not pus, get a sucker and to regular suction of the tube. Now it's the family's duty to take care of Him.
He will be more at ease I tell don't let him alone, because actions speak louder than words.
It neither contagious, nor infected.

I think only a doctor could answer your question. I do however think i would take any and all precautions. I would wear gloves and wash my hands after each time you deal with him, even after having gloves on. I think i would also wear a pollen mask, and clear eye protection. Another thing i would do is wear like a doctors robe or smock that i could take off when i got home. I know this sounds like a lot of work but,you cannot be to careful. If he should question all of this just tell him you are trying not to bring anything else in on him as he has enough to deal with.

Cancer is not contagious but there are lots of bacteria in that mucus, you should better use mask and gloves while you are taking care of your grandpa to avoid any disease because you should maintain yourself in good condition in order to help your grandpa. Good luck

Cancer itself is not contagious, but many people with cancer have infections, too. I would advise using gloves to help clean up, and wash your hands frequently when around your grandfather. I am a nurse practitioner, and have worked with both infectious disease and cancer.

I don't think so. My mom died 3 years ago from lung cancer, but she wasn't coughing up anything. It might be better if you went and talked to his doctor and find out if it's contagious.

SWEETIE
THIS IS NOT PUS, IT IS MUCUS AND CANNOT BOTHER YOU IN ANY WAY....IN ANY EVENT YOU SHOULD HANDLE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH YOUR GRANDFATHER WITH SURGICAL GLOVES. YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO GIVE HIM AN INFECTION THAT COULD MAKE MATTERS EVEN WORSE..........GOD BLESS YOU
