Continuously Variable Transmissions have a low gear ratio and a high gear ratio with infinitely many ratios in-between. The advantage of a CVT is the ability to keep the engine RPM in it's optimum power output range for all operating conditions.

a continuously variable transaxle is nothing more than the enlongated term for CV axle. on front wheel drive cars, you have 2. one on either side of the transmission going into each front wheel, transfering motion from the trans to the wheels. if youve heard anyone saying they had their front axles and CV joints replaced, that is what they are talking about

wrong , john m. it is a continuously variable transmission , there has been a lot of work done on the reliability aspect of them but still make shure you maintain them to the letter.
