Do we seem to forget that a simple phone call will do a lot more than finding excuses as to why no contact

Yes, I think you are right, although I never thought of it like that before. Also, I think we sometimes we tend to blame the other person for no communication when it is equal communication--the phone call is just as easy for one as the other.

It is very true, and it get worse too.

With all these complexity in Twenty First Century, the past standard s are not working any more...

The BEST a person could do in this Century to NOT demand explanation and NOT allow the person falls in stage of bringing EXCUSES.

No, we are afraid to deal with the consequences of our past behavior. We know we are wrong and should call, but can't deal with the pain or anger we are causing in another person.
