If you mean an occasional table, they are only used on special occasions when you have a lot of guests and need more table area. Or am I losing my grip here? Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

It's a counsellor for parson's tables that are having a crisis of vocation due to pressure over the holidays. Some also volunteer as physical therapists with gateleg tables...poor things, they suffer so much...
Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year to you too.

I have a occasional table , the reason i call it so is because it is in our house only occasionally most of the time i don't know were it is , although i now think it is hanging around bars as there are ring marks from glasses and cig burns on it..

Uh, the expression "occasional table" doesn't mean that it's a table occasionally, it means it's a table you use for Occasions (that is, special occasions).
This side of the pond, we say Merry Christmas, though no one knows why.
Felice Navidad, to you.
