there are many people who penned the sections of the NT. Around 100 AD, followers began to write down what was past to them from early days. After Constantine made Christianity a Gov. religion they selected from what was available those they thought were genuine and had a good history. Some were also left out and some were deliberatly destroyed.

Paul was the author of the biggest portion of the NT. Mark is the Gospel according to peter. Luke was a Gentile who followed Paul around and interviewed many of the people who were actually there, but since he was not a Jew he did not understand exactly how some Jewish things worked like for instance he did not get it about the preparation day for Passover. John at least dictated his Gospel but when reading it you can tell some parts are missing. When these were written there were no priests. Many of the works which were not included were by the Gnotics, and some have been found recently. Some say these contradict what we have today, but I have read them and while they contradict some of the tradition there is very little that actually contradicts scripture, mostly it just adds to it. As to which books were chosen and why that is a longer story than I want to cover now. Suffice it to say they could have had better standards yet evrything we need got in in spite of them we just have to look harder than we might have had they included more works.

Christians also recognize the OT - both as a guide and as a foundation for the NT. The NT was written by a variety of individuals. In that era, it was acceptable to write something and ascribe it to someone else. We believe 2 Peter is such a book. James might have been written by the brother of Jesus - the introduction is murky. Acts is by Luke who "appears" as part of the "we" after chapter 15. An intriquing theory is the young man who ran away naked at Gethsemane in Mark was Mark.
In about 80 a.d., a bishop in Ephesus named Onisimus - possibly the same as Philemon - began a collection of Paul's letters. From there, the NT evolved with much debate over which books should be included. There are two collections of books which didn't quite measure up to NT standards but were considered worth the read. More than you asked, Merry Christmas.

After "Jesus" died there were a lot of people that wrote about him. His apostles and many other people that followed him from time to time. The new testament as we know it now did not come out for another 400 - 500 years afterwards. The Vatican then went through all the writings they could find and selected only certain books... the ones that cast them in the best light.

"Jesus" wasn't even considered divine at that point in time. His divinity was voted on later than when the new testament was put together.

The New Testament were written about 35ad to the early 2nd century. The Gospel of Mark is the earliest one written. None of the original Apostles had a hand at writing any of it. Paul, of course, never met Jesus.

By the time scribes were putting the NT together, they were copying from copies of copies. Passages were omitted and others were expounded on.

Jesus didn't write anything. Religion hides the fact that 99% of biblical people were illiterate (couldnt read or write). The present King James version of the Bible was written by monks about the year 400 who translated previous versions of Biblical texts. We now know that there are many mistakes in the bible so it's apparently the word of man, not the word of any god. For instance, How did Noah gather 2 Polar Bears for the Arc when he didn't know that they existed?

the old testament was not written for the jews alone. the new testament is not written for christians alone.
the jews consider the old testament as their doctrine while the christians consider both the old and new...
the old testament was written by all sorts of people.. from prophets, to scribes, to kings... the new testament was written mostly by jesus' disciples (with emphasis on the 4 evangelists: matthew, mark, luke, john). however, some portions of the new testament were by scribes who wrote FOR the disciples. jesus did not write any book in the bible. priests (or any member of the church for that matter) merely interpret what the bible contains.

Both Testaments are for everyone. The new testament was written by neither, of the options you give. They were written, like the gospels for instance, by eyewitnesses, of the actual events, or close immediate friends of the eyewitnesses. Others, were written by followers, and apostles, some written as letters, etc. They have stood the test of time, and scrutiny of all types. Both Testaments are awesome, and helpful to all.

The New Testament, as tradition would have it, was writen by Jesus's selected apostles. This includes Mark, John, Luke, Matt, Paul, James, Jude, and Timothy.

God inspired men to write all and Jesus quoted the old often and said the old was written so we could learn. The new was written for all the jews. They just don't believe it. A lot of people don't accept either to their peril.
