It's possible. My friend's house is in chicago and its ancient. Whenever I go over for a sleep over I can hear someone breathing at the corner of the room when I'm trying to sleep. then I feel the bed sinking a bit like someone is lying down there next to me.
It's really no big deal, as long as the ghost is harmless it's all good. If he really has a problem with it tell him to get a priest and get rid of it.

it could well be that his house is haunted, but it must be a nice ghost, keeping him warm, but he could always have the house blessed, and maybe the ghost will move on, Merry Christmas

A girlfriend from years ago used to have her sheets pulled from her bed at night. she swore it was a ghost & her house wasn't built until the 1930's.

He need to get rid of them. Tell them thank you for being here but it is time to go towards the light. Light white candles even around his bed read Palms 96 in the Bible & see if things start to get better for him.
