How much longer will people continue to belief in ancient myths about Gods and prophets? I don't mean this question in an insulting way, I'm serious. So many legends and myths of our ancestors have been disproven, when will the current crop of ancient beliefs (Christianity, Islam, etc) go the way of the Dodo?

I understand that these legends bring comfort to some who are looking for answers as to "why are we here" and "what happens after this life". I guess my question is, why don't we just admit that we don't know the answers to these questions rather than creating belief systems that have been the cause of so much suffering and unhapiness over the centuries? "Turning my life over to God" or "It's in God's hands" seems such a cop out.

Our species has developed to a point where we can ask various questions but nowhere near advanced enough to know the answers. Having said that, we are getting there slowly but none of us alive today will know the real answers.

One day you will be kneeling before God (Jesus). I think on that day you will believe. Prove Christianity wrong.

We'll stop believing when "mystical" events stop happening; when "miracles" stop happening; when faith proves pointless. As yet, this hasn't happened.

Not all myth is old. The Mormon church is based on books supposedly found relatively recently.

Not all myth is false. The word "myth" isn't synonomous with falsehood. It merely implies an ancient belief. Much of what is ancient "myth" has been verified as fact. A thing can be myth and fact simultaneously.

Today, much of physics is taking on a mystical form. The results of expirements are being determined by the mere act of being viewed. Objects are shown to exist simultaneously at two different places. Things are able to be particle or energy, with the simple act of observation being the determining factor in how it presents itself.

Quantum physics seems to reinforce, rather than detract from the supernatural.

How much longer? As there seems to be nothing in this world speaking against or disproving any sort of supernatural underpinning to the world, it seems that the answer to your question would be "quite some time".

I'm not an unintelligent oaf. I have a background in engineering, dealing with MEMS devices (google it). I've also studied the Bible and other religions, before deciding on my own path. I've worked with hard science and I've studied spirituality. I don't find them at all in conflict with each other.

That's why they are called 'believers'....they believe. However you are right it is a cop out and a dangerous one at that.

This concept of a male deity who needs to be exalted, thanked, honored, praised, worshipped, adored, venerated, adulated, extolled, complimented, admired, glorified and idolized is completely out of date and belongs to the Stone Age, when so-called savages were afraid of their own shadows and attributed everything that happened to them to a deranged god creature somewhere in outer space. This kind of thinking does not belong to this age, when humanity must stop putting responsibility for its own messy creation on such an imaginary creature as the white male god who sits on a throne in a nebulous heaven.

Let's get off this warped interpretation of God. God, which is simply Great Spirit, the Tao, the Cosmic Yin/Yang, the Creative Life Force, the Schwartz, or the Big Nothing, has no need for praise of any kind, because it is an entity complete unto itself. It is not a sickly human being who feels as if nobody loves it if other petty and puny human beings don't suck up to it and tell it is loved. No intelligent person is buying this rubbish anymore. No thinking person with any self-esteem is falling upon his or her knees to lick the boots of a giant old man with a white beard who has the power to bestow accommodations in Heaven. The game is up. It will just take awhile for everyone to leave the table.

Anyone who applied five cents worth of rational analysis to any faith based idealology would arrive at the conclusion that it's all a crock. It will be a part of society until the end of time. I've been an agnostic/athiest since I was 11. There is a direct correlation between intelligence and religious belief. As long as most people are of average intelligence there will be widespread religion. The masses are asses.

World Governments want the religion myth to continue opiating the people (insure domestic tranquility). They're all for it. The religions want it to continue. They are taking in $3 billion a year in tax free donations. And the news media continues to lie through their teeth.

With the onset of the age on the internet, virtually world-wide access to information at any time, anywhere, the truth is advancing. I'm going to say about 40 years, but it might take a little longer than that. Our numbers are growing, but we are still the minority. It isn't always easy to be years ahead of your time.
