Neuropsychology is a branch of psychology and neurology that aims to understand how the structure and function of the brain relate to specific psychological processes.

It is scientific in its approach and shares an information processing view of the mind with cognitive psychology and cognitive science.

There are several approaches, including Experimental neuropsychology, Clinical neuropsychology and Cognitive neuropsychology.

Neuropsychology often overlaps with philosophy, neuroscience, psychiatry and neurology.

Pain management is more under "health psychology".

Neuropsychologist deal with loss of brain functioning like difficulty remembering things, language problems, vision, hearing, sensory (that's more to do with pain or sensations) and motor problems. Even behavioral and emotional problems that are related to some malfunctioning in the brain.

I do know that a neuropyscologist works with people with brain disorders. I personally know of a PhD in neuropyscology that works with people having been involved in car crashes. He tests them to determine the persons cognitive and behavioral deficits and works with them to deal with these problems. Many post traumatic brain injuries are lifelong.

It has to do with people who have mental illness due to actual physical impairment such as brain chemistry and function. Usually, it is treatment that combines both psycotherapy and meds in conjunction.
