There's a lot of pressure on men when it comes to committment. Although we live in a time when women are self sufficient, men still carry the burden of taking care of a household. So if a man doesn't feel settled in his life (career, finances, etc) then he may not feel comfortable committing.

Also, there's the fish in the sea mentality. Committment is a serious step and men want to be sure that they chose the right person.

I don't think that's the only reason

I think it might also be because (this might sound sexist but I've read most of it in my psyche class)

Women *tend* to make decisions with emotions, while men *tend* to be more "logical minded" (note: tend means it's not an absolute statement haha)

That being said, men might just realize something, like for example that they won't be able to make a marriage work or that they can't support a family etc.

Whereas women will feel so strongly in love that marriage seems the only way.

I'm not a man afraid of commitment, nor a woman wanting it, so I guess take my opinion with a grain of salt. And some ketchup...

I am a guy and scared to commit. Sometimes its a trust issue and men are less likely to expose their vulnerable side to another in fear of being hurt or lied to. On the other hand sometimes a girl is too bossy, not trusting, simply annoying, or tooo emotional. It's a two way street. I myself just don't like being vulnerable and for now atleast would rather be protected in my own world and not take the risk of sharing it with someone else. This changes though going back and forth.

It's not so much "scared" as it is a red flag, many men want to keep their options open. Any pressure to commit pushes them away. They want it to be their idea.

It happens in the gay world, too, we just can't get married in 49 states. But maybe it's best since 50% of marriages end in divorce within the first 5 yrs. Not exactly a stellar track record for family values, eh?

It is not that they are scared. It is because they don't want to enter a commited relationship to early into the relationship. Besides love doesn't always equal marriage and marriage doesn't always equal love. Just because a man loves a women doesn't mean he would want to spend the rest of his life with her and have her bear his children, same goes for women.

This is a good question. I can't speak for all the guys...but I can speak for myself and my opinion. It sounds that easy..but for a guy...its not. For me..its the devorce rate now days, how once a girl knows she has you..in her hand...she controls your every move, no football, no hangin out with friends, ect. Then everyone will tell you why not to get married because of numerous reasons. Guys like to be free...we like freedom..we dont like to be confined and controlled

I might regret that I commited to her,and I don't want to start a family & get married right away, because that would lead to divorce & chaos if it didn't work out.

It depends on the kind of baggage that the man has to deal with on the woman. Or he needs to fufill some career goals in order to take care of his family. And others like to stay single and obtain other life goals that are individualistic.
