That was the Old Testament.
Jesus nullified many of the OT laws, except for the Ten Commandments.
This is a New Covenant.

Funny I've been eating pork on a regular basis all my life and yet I'm healthy. Looks like actually cooking the meat before eating it makes it safe, 'magine that. The mosaic hygiene laws were rendered moot by the 'new covenant' that's why christians pay no mind to the don't eat this do that stuff of the old testament. If you look in the gospels you'll find Paul says all that stuff is irrelevant, from a christian perspective anyway.

Actually not all Christians eat pork and that is for some of the reasons God gave. He was talking about the pig being dirty and filthy. It's was not so much a religious rule but, a health rule. God really was just looking out for they're health benefit. When God used the word "unclean" in that chapter he really just meant it's dirty and if you eat it you'll get really sick. It was a health tip.
Lets face it back in that day they did not have Lysol and hand sanitizer and baby wipes. If you read most of Leviticus it's mostly about what to do and what not to do. Not to make up rules just for fun but it was about how to care for yourself.
Chapters 13 and 15 people stress when they read it. "Wash this"...."bathe that"....."clean this"
"stay away from this person if they have a nasty bump"....."dont lie with women while on their period"......
It's all sanitary. He was trying to keep them ALIVE! Now a days we have neoprene and tampons. Technology has come very very very far so enjoy!

Get away from the Law and come back to Grace.
Peter had this same problem in Acts 10:10-15; And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Look at the New Testament, especially what Paul and Peter have to say about Gentiles and "unclean" animals.
Not eating pig, while a good idea, is not a must for Gentile Christians.

During Biblical Days they did not know how to keep meat from spoiling other than by pouring salt on it. Because of this many people got sick by eating pork because of trichinosis (the larva of a worm) for not cooking long enough, hot enough, or by improper storage. Many of the olde laws came about because of the lack of advances in medicine. Another related one was that people didn't do blood transfusions. The reason was that they didn't know there were different blood types and so there was a law against it. Some religions follow that law to this day like Jehova's witnesses. And some religions, like Judaism, still don't eat pork. Anyways...my Rabbi once told me,"If you are gonna eat pork, you might as well let the juice drip from your chin!" That means don't hide who you are or what you do. Thanks for allowing me to answer one of the few things I actually know.

Suliman! that Part of the bible is from the TORAH!
if you do not know what that is.... it the jewish version of the Bible!
If you read the new testament, you will see that God said that no one should call anything that he has created unclean!!!
I am a vegetarian christian, but christians ARE allowed to eat Pork! Christians are allowed to eat any animal!
Christianity is largely based on the new testament.
You should read it for yourself.

The main reason is in Acts where Peter was visited by Jesus saying that no food that God has given you can ever be profane.
Personally I think a better reason was something Jesus said before crucifixion where he explained that that which goes into the mouth (food) cannot defile, only that which comes out of the mouth (words) can. If I have a spare moment I'll get you some verse references later.

The Jews under the Mosiac Law Covenant were forbidden to eat pig. Jesus the Christ did away with the Mosaic Covenant and thus the law had ended.
