I tried letting her lick the toothpaste before trying to brush and she refused to even try it. ITs werid, she wants to eat EVERYTHING except the biscuits and toothpaste. P.S. I will NOT hold her down and force her to let me brush her teeth.

take her to the vet, she might need a dental. dogs need regular professional teeth cleaning like humans do. she might have an abcessed tooth. the vet will be able to provide you additional ideas that you can try at home following the dental that the dog will be fine with. oravet is a good option. be careful with greenies, the material in greenies does not digest and some dogs have died from eating them.

Much like people he could have plaque build up and he needs a good teeth cleaning done professionally by your vet, unless you know how. Since you say he doesn't let you brush his teeth, it should be an indication that he is hurting, therefore will not let you touch his mouth. After the professionally done teeth cleaning, get Acidophilous and give it to him twice a day to help him with acidosis in his stomach which is probably what contributed to the plaque in his teeth. Do this for about a month, it is relatively inexpensive and will work if you stay on schedule and do NOT miss a dose. Then try brushing his teeth every day from then on, you will see improvement and eventually your dog will not have bad breath. Just like humans, bad breath is a sign of other problems, including diabetis, worms, ulcers, lack of enzymes and many more. A blood test would not be a bad idea either.

Sounds as your dog may have some dental issues. Are you feeding her with canned food or dry? Giving a dog dry food will aid in cutting down the tardar on the teeth. Then again, I had a Boston male that until he was about 6 months old was on occasion eating poop. Thank goodness he has stopped.
You might want to try a different type of dog food. Try Science Diet's t/d® Canine.
t/d® Canine
For the Nutritional Management of Dogs with Dental Disease
This painful and potentially serious problem is most usually a result of plaque and tartar buildup at and under the gum line. Prescription Diet® t/d® Canine dog food is formulated specifically for the nutritional management of dogs with dental disease. It's special fiber matrix scrubs the exposed tooth surface like an edible toothbrush, reducing bacteria-laden plaque.
You can start with that then try the brushing. If left unchecked, this buildup can lead to gingivitis, a dental condition that can weaken the gums and tissues that support the teeth.
Since I have my dogs on hard dry dog food and the occational hard chew toy, their teeth are healthy and no bad breath.

Well, there are special kinds of dog treats that you can buy to help with your dog's breath. But if those don't work, then you should brush your dog's teeth every once in a while. It's a good thing for your dog to have good hygiene also. So next time your dog's breath smells bad, try these suggestions!

In addition to teeth, failing kidneys can give a dog a bad breath. Have a kidney blood test done for the dog, and if appropriate, put it on a kidney diet.
I personally would suggest a lot of wholesome organic rye bread. Occasionally even wholegrain. It is great for their digestion, and very good for the kidneys.

Bad breath could be a sign of a infected tooth, you can not see all the way in the back of the mouth. Also seems silly but when anal glands are full they will give a dog bad breath. A dog will not always scoot on ground to let you know anal glands are full. I work in a vet clinic and we see dogs all the time with full anal glands and the dog has bad breath.

I give my dogs Greenies (the new ones are completely digestible and safe) after I brush their teeth. Start the brush slow by letting her taste the tooth paste on the brush. Then introduce the brush to her mouth little by little, along with lots of praises and treats.

Get some info here http://www.wilsonscockers.com/Badbreath.htm
If his teeth are fine and he hasn't been eating something foul, the bad breath could be due to poor digestion. Your dog may be struggling to digest his food and the partially digested food could be giving off a bad smell. Dogs need digestive enzymes and beneficial bacteria to help promote a healthy digestive system. Go to http://www.formypet.biz , click on canine and then "Digestive Problems" for more info.
It is wise to always try to get to the root of a problem and treating the problem-NOT the symptoms!!!
Good luck!!
