I don't know if non-beleivers wanna convert. Maybe just prove a point for a victory. Beleivers wanna convert because it scores points with the big guy. Its a good thing to do, if successful.

First, it's not even vaguely communist...but that's neither here nor there.
The need to convert, I think, is a natural consequence of faith. If you believe (truly) that you have the answers to life's questions, then only a sociopath would not want to share those answers with other people.
The problem comes from impatience. If Muslims, Christians, Secular Humanists, and everyone else decided to spend all their spare time arguing the relative merits of their worldviews...life would be reasonably good. But, not many people are satisfied with that. So instead they try to ram their faith (or non-faith) down the throats of everyone else. Discussion and debate are not very efficient in matters of faith...and people get frustrated.
Additionally, for many folks the perils of being "wrong" are so catastrophic (like eternity in hell) that the risk of error is too great.
It doesn't entirely have to be this way. Most (but not all) Unitarian Universalist congregations accept members of any (or no) declared faith with open arms, so long as the discourse can remain civil.

I am a member of Christ's Church. What I find in the BIBLE is that we are told to follow the examples set by Christ and the Apostles in the New Testament. That is we are to read, study, and teach GOD's WORD to others. The first century Christians went from house to house studying the gospel with one another. We attempt to do the same whenever possible. I DO NOT verbally attack believers or non-believers about their beliefs. I do attempt to answer questions that are asked in a civil manner. Have a great week!

I don't care what others believe, but the Christian feel the need to try to inject their beliefs into the public schools and science classes. I have a BIG problem with that. So it is useful to get a few more people on my side.
I also like to answer the incredible amount of mis-information that is out there about things like evolution. I bet at least twice a day there is a question that starts with "So if we evolved from monkeys...." It is incredible to me that someone got through 8th grade science class thinks that we evolved from monkeys. And they usually go on from there to ask a question that makes it look like they have great scientific knowledge. It is really hard not to make fun of that.

I've never tried to convert anyone. Infact, I barely knew what an atheist was (I didnt know someone who didnt believe in god was called an "atheist") when I converted from Christianity to Atheism.
Many times "believers" have tried converting me though (as per the Bible), I dont try to convert them (I will debunk myths and misconceptions when they're presented to me), but I dont preach my beliefs in hopes others will follow me.

I'd have to say that it began with Christians, because they were told that it was their duty to go out and make disciples. Unfortunately, most people didn't want to convert, but some people were persistent in converting, so the other side fought back. Soon everyone joined in the fight and it basically became a bar room brawl over religion.
That's my opinion, but I'm sure there were other religions who told their followers to convert others. I only say Christians because they're defiantly trying the hardest.

Convert in the Oxford English Dictionary = to reason (a individual) to alter perception. human beings try this because of the fact: a million. they're confident of the reality of their perception (e.g. evolution is authentic) 2. They see the wear and tear in the perception gadget of the guy they're speaking to (e.g. religious ideals may well be perceived as oppressive) 3. They sense greater effective approximately themselves via dominating others - greater of a character concern. 4. they provide theory to that the determination of perception gadget has eternal outcomes (e.g. in the case say of Christians or Muslims). 5. they have very severe get entry to standards for awareness, and for that reason, think of of it as their accountability to debunk claims to awareness that throughout their view do no longer degree up (e.g. some who carry to scientism, could sense accountability guaranteed to undertaking religious individuals, because of the fact they carry to ideals that could no longer be scientifically validated)
