NO one cares... Just give me some utensils so I can eat... that is all I and my family cares about.

I care so that I know what to use on the next course. Sometimes those "rich" people are donating money to go to those functions so that others don't have to eat from dumpsters. Just because there are bad things in the world doesn't mean we should abandon proper society. Knowing what to do makes people feel secure.

I don't think anyone could care these days, but it was sort of a sign of rank way back when. If you knew all the silverware and where it went it should you as a mored learned person.

These days we don't have defining ranks and titles such as King, Lord, Baron, Dutch, Peasant, etc to define such a thing.

And besides, you can use any spoon or fork for the same purposes. You don't need 8 kinds -_- Waste of metal and space, if you ask me. I think having so much silverware also showed you could afford it. Like how being fat was a good thing ages ago because it showed you had enough money to eat more than you needed.

Just this year I have spent every spare minute refurbishing our dining room. This Christmas I dressed the table for Christmas lunch for my family and for once, i made sure that the table settings were inch perfect. After all the hard work, it was really nice to see it laid out so well. I am not a rich man, we bought this house 27 years ago and at times have been very close to losing it back to the mortgage company. So in answer to your question.. Yes I did care today, it made all of my hard work worth it.

It depend on when you fix it properly and when not,if i am between my close Friends i don't really care and even i never looked for that thing before,But if i am between a strange people who's visiting me for the first time i will really care also if i am invited to somewhere for the first time i will look for the presentation they provide because it will reflex sometimes the way they think about me and how much they appreciate my presence.

Yes, I do. Certain standards have to be maintained in life. Sure, it's only silverware, but I've discovered that slipping standards can begin with something minor like misaligned silver and it can lead to horrendous things like two terms of George W. Bush.

just as we judge strangers in the first 30 seconds, our guests (subconciously) judge the quality of our hospitality in the first minute or two, we smile, take their coat, offer them a drink and they see the dining table beautifully laid for the meal. It sets the scene, the mood for the evening.

It sort-of shows respect, good china, clean glasses, cutlery shiny and neat.

Well, I don't think it matters at all, but some people are eager to impress. It does look nice, but no it's not necessary.

I agree, but if you are fortunate enough to have a table, silver, and food to eat it with, why not make it special?

I do not , as long as it is clean, the food is good and the people at the table are nice.
