No, I use one for light saltwater and found the drag wasn't adequate for larger saltwater fish.

I have had a Ambassadeur USA 500 that I bought when I was 13 now im 32. I take care of it and it still works great. I also have my dad's old red 5000 from early 70's which I never use. Get a Revo they are the shizzz. A 4600 is cool too be sure you want to hold a round baitcaster some people think they are to bulky but the Revo is super low profile. I have an S model and love it. Good reel buying, wish my wife would buy me a new reel!!!

The smallest reel I would say would be a 7000c, ABU. No smaller. 4/0 Penn would be the next reel. Newell 324iitc would be another. All of these reels should be ok but, none of them are the best. Anything smaller and you stand a chance of burning up your drag, ripping out your worm gear and in the end loosing the fish.

Actually I use a open face reel Shakespere that holds 30 lb test and I do fine.

Depending on how big they are. Most situations they should be good for your average sized fish.
