The easy road is not necessary the road you want to travel. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for the believer, God revealed a road map, and in this case, it is the [Christian] bible which is the word of God as spoken through his prophets. It was written a long time ago in a style that is uncomfortable for westerner especially in how it just doesn’t get to the point, succinctly enough. Moreover, it is its only source. There is no other revelation to cross reference.
People in church gather because they share the same belief, the same understanding. As you quickly observed some understanding lacks the consistency in what the bible says. Their religion (way of life) fails to meet the religion of Jesus (Judaism), and promoting the bible requires learning the intricate subtleties and hard to find details. For example, how God’s behavior seems emotional and inconsistent. In their pursuit of the bible, their focus is so narrow that they fail to realize how false and idiotic their religion (practice) has become. Is there a good reason for their limited understanding of the biblical pages they read? (Paraphrase of your details.) Resulting in the believer’s belief not matching what God has revealed.
There are many denominations (or so call sects) that claim that they uniquely have the wisdom and knowledge to promote how we should live our lives. For example, there are 613 commandments given to the Israelites as part of their covenant with God, and some claim a certain number applied. You hear about the ten commandments as being essential for Christian practice, but Christians follow a second covenant whose restriction can be found in 1 Cor 10:23-24 [It is sorted of hidden due to the Eastern style of writing.] This clearly states that the all 613 commandments (including the most quoted 10) do not apply. Some churches believe additional restrictions are necessary in order to be part of their congregation which was be all right until they try to teach all nations.
The criteria for a messenger [prophet] are that they can not make a mistaken. If they were made a mistake, they are not a messenger (God’s messenger) and they were stoned to death. As tempting as this might sound, killing everyone who gets the message wrong or correcting every wrong teaching will not make your journey easier. Jesus’ teaching is this very simple, move on.
This brings us back to your question, back to the road you will to road. It starts with you, with what you believe, and what you do with those beliefs. There are roads, some easy and others more difficult, and how you travel them is up to you. What you travel with is also up to you, but make sure you don’t throw away the map because can’t read it.

I have been a bible student 43 years and love every minute of it.
You are right about bible being little known.
It is difficult to be with people that do not know it.
I am so surprised [ that of 1,110 years to O.T. done 443 before Christ, and 50 to 100 after Christ for N. T. and where ever it was before KJV Bible 1611 CE published and I add 303 years to 1914 CE as an excepted translation by law of man and God as it is true in English ], that people complain of mistakes, all I see is very understandable and why is there not more. I am grateful to every one involved and to the MIGHTY HAND OF GOD FOR THIS BOOK.

>>Could it be there is a good reason for your shallow understanding of the Bible?<<
You need to have some understanding of Protestant beliefs. They believe any Joe can read the Bible and understand it completely and interpret it correctly without help from anyone but the Holy Spirit. Admitting this is not the case would be admitting that Protestantism is wrong.

I tend to agree that people read the Bible in different ways. But being false and idiotic. No! Some people know it cover to cover. Wheither they do what it says is up to them. God knows all. Now a days especially women would have a fit. Your ? is a good one. Except for the false and idiotic part. I hate when someone tries to quote the Bible and doesn't have a clue to what they are saying.
It's hard to understand at first. But the Lord will open it all up to you.
Bless you.

Yes, the churches show very skewed opinions of the bible, but that doesn't mean the bible shows a religion which is untenable.
I have read all but three books of the old testament (I really should read the last ones) as well as the new testament and a fair swathe of apocryphal new testament.
Much of it is contradictory and is a result of years of infighting between Christian sects. The core teachings, however, can be extracted and are very sound and comparable with some of the greatest philosophers the world has ever seen. Of course, those aren't really the bits the churches focus on, but each to his own, eh?

The only one that seems like they are having trouble understanding the bible is you, True Christians don't have any trouble, I understand it very well, Because I have been a Christian for over 36 yrs. Now to understand the bible, you need the teacher of the bible, which is the Holy Ghost, If you don't have that, then the answer you just gave yourself, speaks for only yourself.

Mr goodgolly, I too have a problem with the bible, because of the difficulity in sorting out the human element, the misinterpetions, deliberate distortions and omissions. I find that jesus taught the same as the ancient vedas, siddha yoga, vedanta philosophy and hinduism. if you study these roots of christianity and islam you will arrive at "the truth". see this site for unbiased, factual information about what the Great Saints have taught and are now teaching. www.stephen-knapp.com/articles_to_read. and www.geocities.com/mihirig/siddhayoga

You posted this to get this troll comment in :"if your understanding of the Bible got too deep, you would realize how false and idiotic it is?"
Your "beliefs" are more false than those of Bible believers. You believe in netporn and a well-lubricated right hand. That's your false God, and you are sealing your eternity now with that and anti-God trash like this fake question.

As you clearly have no understanding of The Bible it is clear you are not a believer.... there is nothing in The Bible of The True Christian faith for the non-believer... only those open to the leading of The Holy Spirit will find what God has for them there.

Who's interpretation do YOU follow? Where is it proven that you are qualified to interpret the bible? Will you please give us a more clear translation of the original text.
You would be surprised at how much a person who believes in God, will do. Friends have taken classes in Greek, Hebrew and Latin, so they would be able to read the original, and they do not mock you for not understanding. What have you done?
