I'm going to be pulling out the 2 bottom wisdom teeth. What will happen after? I know it will be painful for a couple of days. Will their be swelling of my mouth? If so, how can I prevent my mouth from swelling or puffing up?

When you say "I'm oing to be pulling out..." I certainly HOPE you mean a dentist or oral surgeon will be pulling...lol

After they're done removing the teeth, they'll place gauze over the socket. BIte on it for 30-45 min and replace only while still actively bleeding. There may be swelling after; depends how difficult/traumatic the extraction is.... I recommend holding a bag of frozen peas on the outside of the jaw for 20 min on, then 20 min off etc. You should also take 3 or so 200mg ibuprofen every 4-6 hrs (it's an antiinflammatory) in add'n to any pain meds the doc gives you.

soft cold foods; (yogurt, pudding, etc) no sharp Dorito kinda stuff! don't smoke or drink through a straw. starting the next day, rinse GENTLY twice a day w/ warm salt water, and let it drool out; do not SPIT.

I think that covers it!

Yes it will be very sore. I had all 4 pulled at once. You will be packed with gauze for a couple hours to stop the bleeding. You don't want to eat for a while because you dont want food particles in the holes where the teeth were. Ice chips help with the pain and they should give you a pain reliever. Within a week you should go back for a check up and get a syringe to irrigate the holes with water after you eat, so till then its not good to eat stuff that can get stuck and cause an infection, I stuck to jello and pudding and liquid stuff.

Honey, it isn't the swelling you have to worry about. You have to worry about dry socket. That is incredibly painful and will prolong recovery and being pain free. Ask your dentist about dry socket and what causes it, ok? If I were you, I would tell your dentist to take out top and bottom on one side only because your mouth will be tender for quite some time and you won't be able to chew all the foods you like if there is one tooth on each side taken out. Think about it, if one on the bottom right and bottom left are taken out, you will have pain on both sides of your mouth. Then, when you are ready to take out the top ones, you are going to go through the same pain again, except on the top. Always pull teeth on one side top and bottom. That way, you can chew on one side while the other one heals.
