Opossum: Zarigueya, originates from Tupi-guarani, a linguistic and cultural amerindic family, in parts of Paraguay and Brasil.
In Mexico, at least in my part of the country, we call it Tlacuache.
They are quite common here.

Opossum = opusum. "Possum" = del oposum. Don't know about the different countries.

depending on the countries it can also be called:

marmosa, micuré, carachupa, churcha, tacuacín, rabopelado, tlacuache
