Hi LisaMaria,

To get good lower abs, it helps to have a combination of fat loss, and lower ab toning.
There's no such thing as "spot reduction" of fat, so a little fat loss would help by increasing your cardio workout, (or other exercises).

There are quite a number of exercises that you can do to target lower abs.
My favourites are:

- Leg slides (for beginners)
- Bridged leg extensions (slightly more advanced)
- Bench knee raises (great for posture)
- Leg extensions on an exercise ball
- The plank (general ab workout, but great for lower abs)

The key to all these and lower abs in general, is maintaining control and keeping your hips and back in the right position.
If you just do leg raises "out of control", you will work your abs, but also your lower back, upper abs, and you won't target the lower abs.

There's a detailed explanation on how to do the above exercises and at which intensity in the resource box below

Best of Luck,

James

Situps only work the upper abs. Like someone else said, hanging leg raises work well, if you have access to the equipment to do them. If not you can do leg raises while laying on the floor or you can try holding your legs straight about 6 inches off the ground for 10-20 seconds. Just be sure to keep your hands under your butt to protect your back.

Good luck!

Hold a 5lbs - 7lbs medicine ball between your ankles, and do leg lifts! Make sure you hold on to something with your hands for stability! You are for sure to have great lower abs quick with the medicine ball leg lifts!! Good luck!!
