Our parents always placed stockings on our bedposts or door knobs of our bedroom filled with smaller gifts. Our parents always managed to sneak them into our rooms while we were sleeping. The first thing we see when waking up is the stocking filled with these small, but often fun gifts, which was exciting. From the time that we were kids, my siblings and I would then take our stockings into our parents' room and open the gifts while sitting at the foot of their bed while they both sat up and watched. After we were finished, my father would then go downstairs and turn on the Christmas tree lights, make sure that the fireplace was roaring, and that everything was in order and ready to go. Once he came back up and gave us the go ahead, we'd run downstairs and sit around the tree to open gifts. It was a ritual that carries on to this day with my siblings and their children. I think it's a fun way to approach things.
