Retin A is a form of vitamin A which was originally used to treat acne - by prescription only. The generic name is "Retinol".
The acne patients noticed an added benefit of dimished wrinkling and so now the product is mostly used "off-label" as part of a anti-aging regiment.
For anti-aging is an active ingredient is 90% of anti-aging creams, but in a significantly smaller concentration so that it does not need a prescription.
When using Retin-A/Retinol products, the higher the concentration the patient experiences increased photo sensitivity which can lead to sun burns.
Retin-A/Retinol treats wrinkles by increasing the cell regeneration and increasing collogen production by creating controlled skin irritation. This then removes wrinkles and sun damage.
YOU MUST USE A DAILY HIGH SPF SUN-SCREEN WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT. Otherwise hyperpigmantion (dark spots) can be produced on the treated area. Without sunscreen the patient will end up worse than before the treatment.
Since most patients find the treatment extremely drying, the do not mind using a sunscreen as this also moisturizes the skin.
Unless directed by a doctor, it should only be applied at night, avoiding the orbital eye area (around the eyes), and at least two minutes before applying any other cream.
Again, unless directed by a doctor, if you are also using an Alpha-Hydroxy or Vitamin C based product, use these in the morning and the Retin-A at night.
NOTE: if in any doubt you must ask your medical practioner before using this treatment. This answer is not intended to give medical advice but only general information on the product.

I use Retin-A at the moment. It worked wonders on my acne and made the scarring I had reduce DRAMATICALLY. I really like it and I don't break out alot anymore. I mean, now I get a zit here and there but nothing too serious. I don't know if it combats fine wrinkles but I would deffinatly recommend it for acne! You can always get a different cream for fine wrinkles and use Retin-A for acne. But I would ask my dermatologist just because Retin-A makes your skin a little sensative. Good luck!

Actually it works for both acne and anti-ageing. It's a great product, you can buy it from several on-line pharmacies without a prescription. I'd start with the 0.05% strength cream. Take care : )
