Basically my (female) friend's boyfriend is going for away for six months travelling to Australia and Thailand so there is very little chance she will see him. The other problem he has picked the worst day to go - Christmas day!

I really want to cheer her up. Could someone please help me think of things to do or say that might help?

Any help would be really appreciated!

You could really help her out, by encouraging her to start hobby. Example, you could take some cooking classes together, once a week. It will give her something to look forward to every week, until he comes home. And you are a great friend, she's very lucky! & I think she will be ok, cuz she has you. Make her laugh, & as you said let her cry!
Or you could do a dinner and move night just for you two. That way if she needs to be sad, she can be, or if she wants to be happy, she can do that too! Being honest about your feelings is always helpful, just listening will do alot for her too. It will get better with time. & Before you know it, he will be home, and you will be looking for someone to hang out with! LOL
You can call me in 6 months, cuz you sounds like a great friend too have.!

A great idea would be to take her out to her favorite place OR get her something that you know she loves (say candy or a certain type of flower). obviously try to make it something that wouldnt show her you're interested in her (even if u are) cuz she'll be feeling sad and may not want attention (in a romantic way) right now. write her a poem of someting small that shows here you're there to tlk to about missing him at anytime while he's gone. a girl loves to hear that there's a shoulder to cry on when she needs it, and if you show her that side of you, you'll be her best friend for life (plus, if things dont work out, she may come running to you and it could possibly become a relationship between u 2).

Good Luck!

Whatever you tell her, never tell her about what guys really do in Australia, and especially not in Thailand. It's modern day Sodom over there, and I guess you could advise her to make him use condoms from now on. It may save her life.

the only thing that you really can do for her is to be there for her. the first few weeks are going to be the hardest and she's going to need a shoulder to cry on.

properly she would be in a position to constantly persist with for housing and positioned him on baby help. howdy this is the thank you to flow. he would be finding out to purchase her a place to stay and she or he would be in a position to get baby care in the path of the welfare workplace. she would be in a position to then flow returned to college and the years will fly via. sturdy success!!!
