I want to have Lasik surgery but am skeptical because I dont know what the consequences may be. But I hate working reading glasses and always looking for where I last put them.

Thinking about it also...yes, there are possible side effects. Various sources can be seen online. Most people have very good outcomes. Reducing chances of bad outcomes can be done through selection of the doctor, laser machine, facility, etc. Yes, some machines are better than others.

The need for reading glasses as you grow older is not fixed by Lasik. Lasik can put a new focus to your eyes but can't make the muscles stronger.

The strangest part about Lasik that I heard was that the 20/20 vision that we seek may be 20/25. Not bad, but because of the surgery, you can't be brought back to 20/20 with weaker glasses. The difference can't be corrected. Also, "halos" of light may be present at night.

Good luck. At the same time I have heard of great sucess and happiness in eliminating glasses.

I had it done 4 years ago, and I have had no side effects. It did not cure age related reading though, I had to actually write a statement saying I understood this. I have heard that they can now cure this. I was 700/20 and am now 20/15. I couldn't walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night without my glasses. I think it is great.

One of my best friend has problem after Lasik surgery. Instead of fixing the near sight, he had far sight. His eye was very dry and feeling very uncomfortable. He filed a law suit in small claims court, but did not win the case.

My brothers roommate had it done. It's pricey but his grandma paid for his (lol) He said it was pretty uncomfortable getting it done because you can feel the laser hitting your eye and you can't blink but that it was worth it.
