why do dogs turn in circles before layng down?

it's instinctual. before dog's were domesticated and brought inside to lay on plush beds they circled around and made a spot in the grass. by circling they push all the grass down, and then they'll have a spot, getting rid of lumps and what not. it's something dogs have kept from their wild days.

I think it comes from when dogs lived in the wild, they matted down the grass to sleep.

I think its an instinct ... from when the dogs were wild , they are trying to find a better spot to lay down ... I think... :D

i believe its just a matter of finding a comfortable way to lay down

it because the have a feeling on there tail and they tunr in circles to see how comfortable there bed/floor/were the lay is because they just have like eyes the like back

good question...mine only does it sometimes. I think they are deciding if they want to lay there or not?!
