It is old-fashioned, but proper still in many families. A phone call will do, but a personal visit would be even better. Usually if the girl expects you to contact the father, a three-way conversation would be fine. I assume she will say yes if her father does.

Good luck.

That is the proper thing to do, to ask for the fathers(parents) permission/blessing. Especially if she has a good relationship with them. Also, in the future the father will respect you alot more, if you do this now. It's good manners. You do not have to go to his house, since he is out of state. Just call and explain that you would have done this in person, but the distance makes it difficult. & Your are so excited to spend your life with his daughter! If you really love this girl, this should be a very small sacrifice to make. Plus if her parents have to help pay for the wedding, then you really do need their blessing. Good Luck.
I am confused if you ahve given her the ring yet, if you haven't think of something clever and special. You will remember that moment forever!!

write down what you are going to say and how. Then send her father the list and a cam corder. Then if her father says yes have her play the video of her father;s blessing. That way she gets to see him at the same time. Then sneek up behind her and get down on one knee when her father says something like "(stanley), now would like to say something"

well in the old days it would have been proper to ask the father first before asking her ( this is/was to get his blessing)... so maybe if you can call him and ask him first , and then ask her ( again) maybe in a nice park @ sunset ( or somewhere that holds meaning to you two) get down on your knee and ask for her hand and love and to spend the rest of her life with you

First of all learn English. Then American traditions. Once you get over that hurdle then the answer will be there for you. Or you could go back to your own country and marry one of your own.

Call her Father and tell him that you love his daughter and want to marry her. It's a respect thing - you might feel the same way if it were your daughter.

You can either make a trip to NM or you can call him on the phone, introduce yourself, then ask for his daughter's hand in marriage.
