Safety. Most aircraft built before 2000 or so did not have unnecessary automatic features that could cause air disaters in case of malfunctions. Anti-skid braking has been available since the 1960s since it is a simple and reliable technology that gives a substantial safety advantage, but things like auto-brake, auto-reverse and auto spoilers are not at all necessary as the pilot can select those as well or better than a computer can. It should be noted, however that on most aircraft, once selected, these features operate pretty well automatically in order to accomplish the task they were designed for.

Actually, almost all 747s now flying do have autobrakes. Autobrakes are used in virtually every airliner landing in the U.S.
It is part of the standard operating procedures for the airlines.
