It keeps giving me memory card errors and when I try to download the pictures to the computer the drive window that shows the SD card contents just closes for no reason.

No, sorry, I don't mean "clean" as in "delete"... I mean "clean" as in "clean". I assume that is the problem with the card, the contacts must be screwed up on it I guess. BUT, it's hard to tell if they're dirty or messed up bad.

Grab a Q-tip, place some rubbing alcohol on the tip, and gently wipe the metal prongs on the bottom of the card. Let the alcohol dry, and see if the card works.

Delete all the pictures on your card, or put it into another computer, then when you finally get it into that computer delete the contence of the card. However you must make sure that you're deleting the correct things or else you might delete it's sorce code. There was a person who had that proble last night.
