A half sister is your sister who shares your blood, a step-sister doesn't share blood.
My father was married to a woman and had two boys before he married my mom and had my brother and me. So, I have 2 half brothers because we have the same dad.
If my parents got divorced and if mom marries some guy who already has kids, they'd be my step brothers.

Half-sister would mean that the two sisters share a biological mother or father. A step-sister would mean that a step parent is the biological parent, the step sister would have a different mother and father and becomes related through the marriage. No, a half sister is a sister that shares one of your parents, so for example, has the same dad as you but different mother, and a step sister is one that was married into the family for example your mum married a guy who already had a daughter from a previous marriage.
