I am glad to see that there are a few out there who know the real meaning of the pagan celebration of "Winter Solstice". Hundreds of years ago the Roman Catholic church decided that to put the birth of Jesus as December 25 in order to associate the pagan New Year with new life. It is still a pagan holiday and is still worshiped as such in some areas of the world.
Easter is another such holiday...It was also used by the Roman Catholic church to appease the pagans who worship the Goddess Eshtar or the Goddess of Fertility. When you deal with Easter eggs, baby chicks, bunnies and the like you are celebrating the goddess of fertility not the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It just so happened that Passover comes at about the same time of year.
If you want to know when Jesus was born it is calculated through Mary's cousin Elizabeth and Zacharia. I'll let you see if you can figure it out...

People "paganize" themselves everyday. The days of the week, celebrating birthdays (especially that blowing out the candle and making a wish thing), the exchange of wedding rings is a pagan cultural thing. Anything that isn't part of the Jewish Culture would be considered "Pagan" by the Bible. (Though I don't think it even uses the word Pagan - it's Heathen... same difference).

I haven't and I am a neo-pagan. In our tradition we don't celebrate 25 December (or the winter solstice) as a religious holiday. We recognize the solstice, but we don't attach any particular religious significance to it. Maybe some day we will decorate for it, but so far we haven't felt the need.

Last I checked today isn't the winter solstice and the Roman event was christianized by the pope a long long long time ago. The christians have christmas so you can dance naked around a log with your friends on another day.
Merry Christmas.
