eskimo is a rude term it's like calling native americans indians or even better injuns.
But Eskimo Pie is known the world over as an ice cream treat/dessert. It is even packaged and labeled that way in the stores and on the product.
If the Alaskan Natives would prefer we could call it an Alaskan Native Pie, but somehow that brings up images of eating Alaskan Natives, and thusly we are back to having it called an Eskimo Pie. Hmmm a slight little paradox, isn't it.
Tell ya' what, when the product has been lobbied by enough Alaskan Natives to have the company change the name of the product, then I think the world over will stop calling it an Eskimo Pie and call it it's actual new name. Until then it is a cultural icon.......even after the proper name has changed I believe people in Florida will always call it an Eskimo Pie, seeing how Floridians don't get good news for 10 years after the fact.

There's nothing wrong with Eskimo pie.
Eskimo is a little incorrect when talking about people, for various cultural issues (It means raw meat eater) - but mainly because it designates a very specific group of northern people, and not all the people of Northern Canada and Greenland.
The correct term (For people) is Inuit. It groups a whole bunch of northern cultures together.
If somebody is getting upset over Eskimo pie, though, I'd say they need to buy looser underwear.
Merry Christmas!

There's nothing wrong with Eskimo pies, but yes the term "Eskimo" is insulting to the Inuit.
Before someone dismisses this as "politically correct" I would point out that it's not a bunch of well-intentioned but misguided liberals who object to the term because it "might" offend the Inuit, but that the Inuit themselves have made if very clear over a period of decades that the the term is derogatory and insulting to them.

Eskimo a politically incorrect term for a group of indigenous peoples who have traditionally inhabited the circumpolar region of eastern Siberia, Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. They are primarily the Yupik, Inuit, and the Aleut. The term "Alaska Natives" refers to all indigenous peoples of Alaska, including Northwest Coast and Athabaskan tribes. Who would never have been considered "Eskimos"

the preferred term is "alaskan native"
or the actual tribe name like inuit or whatever the tribe is
when referring to folks indigenous to alaska.
eskimo is considered a pejorative name these days.
but you will still see it everywhere.
ask some alaskan natives what they think.
they will be divided too. some will hate it, some will not care
and will use it themselves. so it's a subject of controversy.
good thing for you to look at more in depth.
why would people get insulted at being called an eskimo?
or the "n" word?
or "flip" for filipino...
or "****" for some asian ethnicities.
or "cracker" for whites...
polack for a polish person
it's that type of thing.

If that's the name, then it's not rude. Besides, if someone has a problem with the name, they should go talk to who ever named it. But I'd continue to call it Eskimo Pie, since that's what it's called.

"Eskimo Pie" is not rude since it is the brand name of a product. Using "Eskimo" to refer to the Inuit people is not necessarily rude, but most Inuit refer to themselves as Inuit or Inupiaq, so why not call them what they want to be called?

Of course not. If you went to the store and asked for 'one of those ice cream things', who knows what you would get. But, if you ask for an 'Eskimo Pie' you'll get a nice chocolate covered ice cream delight. Yummy!

Yes, somewhat, because the word Eskimo means "eater of raw meat" which is pretty rude to the Aleutians and those guys up there, if you think about it.
Of course, the thing is CALLED an Eskimo pie, so I myself think it's okay when you're referring to the dessert.

The proper name for the people is Inuit, calling something Eskimo Pie is just as bad as calling those black gummy candies ****** babies.
