Catholicism pretends that Mary was 'forever virgin', seemingly ignoring the fact that she had other sons and daughters after Jesus was born.
The bible teaches quite clearly that Jesus had literal brothers and sisters in connection with his human mother Mary. There is no reason to think that these ordinary men and women were also the result of divine conception, rather than from normal marital relations between Mary and Joseph.
(Matthew 13:54-56) And after coming into his home territory [Jesus] began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said: "Where did this man get this wisdom and these powerful works? 55 Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Where, then, did this man get all these things?"
While some Catholics pretend that the terms "brothers" and "sisters" do not mean literal siblings, the plain meaning of this Scripture is actually acknowledged by Catholic authorities.
The New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967, Vol. IX, p. 337) admits regarding the Greek words "adelphoi" ["brothers"] and "adelphai" ["sisters"], used at Matthew 13:55, 56, that these "have the meaning of full blood brother and sister in the Greek-speaking world of the Evangelist's time and would naturally be taken by his Greek reader in this sense. Toward the end of the 4th century (c. 380) Helvidius in a work now lost pressed this fact in order to attribute to Mary other children besides Jesus so as to make her a model for mothers of larger families. St. Jerome, motivated by the Church's traditional faith in Mary's perpetual virginity, wrote a tract against Helvidius (A.D. 383) in which he developed an explanation . . . that is still in vogue among Catholic scholars."
In addition, Bible students note that Jesus himself made a clear distinction between his literal brothers and sisters and his spiritual brothers and sisters:
(Mark 3:31-35) Now his mother and his brothers came, and, as they were standing on the outside, they sent in to [Jesus] to call him. 32 As it was, a crowd was sitting around him, so they said to him: "Look! Your mother and your brothers outside are seeking you." 33 But in reply he said to them: "Who are my mother and my brothers?" 34 And having looked about upon those sitting around him in a circle, he said: "See, my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does the will of God, this one is my brother and sister and mother."

I believe as a Christian that it would have been possible for a virgin to have a child by immaculate conception through divine intervention. I guess I have no facts, and if you don't believe in God, I couldn't prove it to you. This is something that I believe is one of the mysteries of my faith. If I didn't believe God could do such a thing, then my God wouldn't be much of a God, now would he? To me, the whole virgin birth as well as the story of Jesus' life made him all that more remarkable as a man who rose above his status to become so influential in history, whether or not you believe he is the son of God. He was born a bastard child in a strict religion, he was poor and was raised by and to be a manual laborer, he was from a small town, and only very distant kinship to any royalty, he was a pacifist, not a soldier. He had no power whatsoever that the world would have acknowledged. So when he emerged as a teacher, healer, radical political figure, it was all the more evident, I believe, that he was tapped into some other sort of power...or that his value system, at the very least, was so different from traditional way of being successful, that a great many people since then have tried to be more like him and found it a good way to live. As far as the RUMORS that circulated after Mary became pregnant, I think the whole situation was likely treated as if Mary was a tramp and got herself in trouble. The kindest rumors about her may have been that she was raped, not promiscuous. And I guess I can't blame her neighbors, friends and family for wondering, at first, or all along, whether these types of speculations were true. Joseph then must have really loved her, or believed her, to take her as his wife because he knew he would have to answer for dealing with this "tarnished" woman. This I think probably saved her honor, as well as giving her the protection and identity she would have needed as a woman in those times. This situation, even after making it right by getting married, probably tainted both Mary and Joseph's reputations around town, and Jesus' too, their whole lives, or at least until Jesus' ministry became something for them to be proud of in his hometown. They probably endured plenty of whispering and doors slamming in their faces. The Bible says that Joseph did NOT have sex with Mary until after Jesus was born. And that she did go on to have other children, the old fashioned way, as Joseph's wife, so she was not a virgin her whole life.

You're on the right track believing that there's more out there than JUST the physical world...You know how many "Christians" DON'T believe in the supernatural? You probably believe because you've experienced things that you just CAN'T explain...Things that they don't talk about in church.
As a Christian myself, I know there's SO much outside the scope of what's talked about in the Bible...How can ANYONE claim to have all the answers these days?...The best anyone can do is admit they DON'T have all the answers and just keep trying to get closer to the TRUTH...It sounds like you're doing that everyday...I say steer the course.
As far as the Virgin Mary goes, I don't give it much thought...I know it's SUPPOSED to be a big deal, but as toting Bible verses go, I focus more on "The more you give, the more you'll have" and "Treat others the way YOU want to be treated"..."Christians" like to argue about things that won't actually change anyone's life.
But if I were the Devil, I'd spend ALL my time in church...The idea is to sneak into your enemy's training camp and botch their training program before they even go to battle...If your enemy isn't properly equipped, you can win without fighting at all...By having the organizations that "represent" God have such a nasty reputation, the world just won't believe.
Don't give up...You're a lot closer than most people that spend their entire lives "serving the lord"...You have a gift...Share it with those who need your help...There are more people out there that feel like you do...And as hokey as it sounds, "God bless."

Well, you may go to church, but you have no faith.
You are therefore not a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Study the prohecies of the Old Testament regarding the Messiah promised to the Jews. Perhaps then you'll get a glimpse of the truth of God's Word, Miracles like the Virgin birth and all.

Marry didn't have a virgin birth, that was a mistake that was made when the Bible was translated from Hebrew into Greek. They took the Hebrew word meaning "young" woman and it got translated as "virgin" woman. Since then everybody has said the virgin Marry.
I can understand that going to church is a very social event but there are also lots of other really cool non-religious social events that one can go to and still get that sense of community. If that is why you go. I don't go to church or believe in God but I too like to think about stuff. I would suggest however that there are even more big and wonderous things that can be thought about in science. Many things even more special than what any theologian could ever make up or imagine.
