I was A christian at one time....I know what it feels like to have people ridicule me. now that I am an Atheist I am mearly trying to educate them....It gets very annoying when the completely Disregard reality...and as time goes by they keep changing what they believe...Either God exists or he doesn't....Either the bible is true or it isn't....Either the earth Is 6000 years old or it isn't....people don't pay attention to facts and that gets really annoying...and having bible verses thrown at you is not justification of anything. People who educate themselves on reality are Atheist..people who believe in Myths are Religious.

The answer to your question lies in the posts you have received. We bash them because they bash us. It is a battle that will never be won. Any group of people whom so-called Christians cannot win over with the love and spirituality that is supposed to define its cult, they rant on at. They despise anyone who is different from them and fitting in and conforming is what religion is all about. To be something other than what they narrowly define as "normal" is anathema to their creed. According to Christians, if you're not with them then you must be against them, which seems odd. The whole basis of the teachings of Jesus were that of love and acceptance for everyone. You don't get to pick and choose who is worthy of love or who is not. And lest they forget, Christianity is the new kid on the block. Pagans have been around longer than there was a written language to record it. That doesn't make paganism inherently better. Just long lived. There are a bizillion religions in the world today and there have been even more over the ages and every last one has said that it was the only true religion. How can that be?

Persecute? Lemme tell you how to end persecution online. That X at the top right of your screen.... click it... no more "persecution".

Now, when a group of Atheists and/or Pagans busts into a Christians house, drags them out and beats them because they're are a Christian, THEN maybe, I'll say Christians are being persecuted. Disagreement, insults, etc online are NOT persecution.

Now, you also point out that most Christians are not Bible thumpers. Ok, I'll give you that. Most aren't. Now what I want to know is WHY should Atheists and Pagans NOT generalize Christians when YOU are doing that very thing in your question?

If it is persecution when an Atheist or Pagan does it to a Christian, then it is also persecution when a Christian does it to an Atheist or Pagan.

You wanted honesty - you got it.

There's a number of folks who seem to think it's their duty to harrass Christians - never made much sense to me. They're likely annoyed by the harassment they get from Christians - while the majority of Christians might not be Bible-thumpers, there's certainly enough of them to go around. And since there doesn't seem to be a Christianity-wide response denouncing thumpers, it can appear that, institutionally, Christianity supports thumping. Add in the fact that (at least in the US) Christianity has such an impact on society, and it can seem like you're in hostile territory. That sets some people on edge.

But, yeah, as others have pointed out, go take a look at a lot of the atheist and Pagan questions - there's an awful lot of "You're going to hell!" responses that you need to sift through to get real answers. It can get a bit annoying.

Notice, too, that I used the word "harass" instead of "persecute". Quite honestly, persecution is far more extreme than anything that happens here at YA. There's real persecution going on in the world over religion, but the stuff that happens here pales in comparison.

oh sweetie, there are "persecutions" on both sides of this coin..

Try going to a question asked of "atheists only" or "witches only" and see what "persecution" takes place there by christians.

I say that because you have obviously been respectful of those questions and left them alone. Your brethren are not so kind as you portray them here. Perhaps you need to open your eyes a bit more to see.

Christians didn't pick on me as a child.. I was one for 20 years. I don't try to lead them away from their God or force my version of the truth on them. However, if they start twisting their bible scriptures to fit their agenda, I'll call them on it in a heartbeat. That doesn't mean I'm persecuting them. I'm simply not going to let them use it as a weapon to beat up on others.

As for most christians not being "bible thumpers", that's a very subjective statement. On Yahoo, as that's the location in your question, I've seen more "bible thumping" christians than I have any other kind. The tirades are much more likely from your side of the fence than they are from mine. I'm a pagan.. we're mostly happy to live and let live. We don't normally pick on anyone.. what I've seen is a lot of name-calling from the christian end of things where your beliefs clash with ours. We don't believe in your satan, and that seems to upset a lot of you who were "educated" to the idea that anyone who doesn't believe in your version of God is of Satan.

Are there some angry folks on both sides who are mean? You bet there are. I won't pretend that all atheists and pagans are just peace-loving folks out to calmly educate others to their beliefs.
Neither are all christians the loving people that their Christ portrayed. By their fruits you shall know them.

It's a pretty equal bash-fest around here. Want to make it stop?
Don't ask questions that provoke people like this.

Will you take the time to investigate the other side of the coin now, or will you ignore it and continue to believe that you're under persecution?

sturdy question - it seems to me that that is greater of a "do as I say, no longer as I do" difficulty. which potential the proselytizing Christian feels it somewhat is their interest to voice their non secular ideals and critiques approximately what you're able to do with your existence, regardless of if unsolicited, so they're going to attain this in such questions addressed to pagans (and could call it "love" or "difficulty" or "doing you a desire") - yet whilst same pronounced Christian gets a reaction from an atheist pointing out the atheist perception that God would not exist and the Bible is a e book of fairy thoughts - pronounced Christian complains approximately how "advise" and "impolite" atheists are. Why can no longer those self same Christians look at that as "love" or "difficulty"? If i became an atheist and that i presumed which you have been dropping your existence hiding below an previous e book of information that have honestly no evidencial information, and being too worried approximately what occurs when you die which you do no longer stay existence to the fullest, my difficulty on your well being could instantaneous me to objective to "instruct you the easy"? what's the version between that and you finding out that i could locate out approximately Jesus?

I don't think as a prerequisite atheist/pagan have to pick on Christians. It is the same with Christians persecuting paga/atheist. It is the person, not the group or belief system. If the person is not happy they will try to make others feel the same they do. People on both sides are sometimes ignorant. People should be allowed to believe what they wish, without persecution.

I am a Non-denominational Christian and I can tell you that the Apostles said this would happen in the first century. Christians were persecuted right after the resurrection of Christ ast the STONING of STEPHEN. Satan is their driver's seat. He will not have any power after the Judgment so why worry about him now? It is our job as Christians to read, study, and spread the GOOD NEWS of JESUS CHRIST. Yahoo is a nice forum for discussion purposes and we know what is to come later... JESUS is our reason to rejoice! I appreciate what Steven had to say. He certainly is on the right track. Have a great holiday season while you can.

Well, I'm not a Christian, an Atheist, or a Pagan, but the abuse goes all around. The Christians gang up on the non-Christians, with Muslims, Pagans, and Atheists getting the brunt of it. They abuse back.

Persecute is a strong word. No one is killing or maiming someone here and no one is preventing anyone from practicing their religion. It's mostly spiteful hate-mongering.

Why do Christians persecute non Christians by judging them and preaching to them all the time?

You are wrong because you are saying that because we point out errors in their belief system that we are persecuting them, when we are just trying to make them more honest.

I will tell you what persecution is, when I was still a Christian I had the faith only crowd and the Pentecostals do things like sabotage my machine to get me fired because they did not like me quoting bible when they tried to convert me to their belief, and I have had my life threatened. My good Pentecostal dad may he rest in peace pulled a gun on me and threatened my life because i was not Pentecostal anymore. i had fellow employees of the faith only doctrine make fun of me all the time and used me as the butt of their jokes because I followed the bible.

who persecutes who?

My purpose for being here and answering questions is to hopefully persuade the honest Christians to see how much damage the hateful ones cause by their hatefulness and will not only stand up for what is right, but demand their fellow Christians start living the way the bible teaches and practice love more than judgment.

I try to motivate them to good works by pointing out the things that harms their testimony.
