Greetings:

I would not say that eveyone has troubles. Some people have an enormous amount of trouble with a wayward mind... and that is when the mind is over-active and has tgo be brought back into the fold, much like a sheep which has run away....

But, there are people who are not "self assumed godly persons," as you put it, who do not suffer
from anything of the sort. I have acquaintances who are business people who are bright, intelligent, and clear-minded, who have no difficulty in concentrating or making decisions, getting the right information, and doing the right thing.

We come in all shapes and sizes, we humans, and it is not possible to generalize about us. Some of us wander around looking for the solution in meditation, which - yes - is one valid solution and a very safe one at that, and yoga which gives a beautiful mind-body centering.

But, there are other things that will work. I have recently been lucky enough to work with a psychotherapist who is very sensitive to nuances and has helped me to stop being nasty to myself.
I do meditate also and someday in the Spring of this coming year I will do some Yoga for a change!

I think that we often do look around for a best method, a safe method, and the one and only royal road to something... but often various approaches work to the same goal. I have found that as I become more and more quiet and happier and composed, various things are finally falling into place ... my typing, for example, is better and I can do simple tasks better. I really do think it is because of my taking it easy on myself as my therapist is recommending that I am getting better at things.

Indian religion states that the soul (the Atma) is encased in five sheaths, one of which is the mind. Mind is seen as necessary ... but it must be controlled or else it will control, which is not what is wanted, is that not so? The mind assists the soul rather than the soul assisting the mind.
So when the mind is happy and healthy, the Atma is perfectly happy... it is the Atma that is the ruling factor here ... it is the Atma which tells us what we want and what is right for us.... so whatever makes it possible for everything to be working properly, that is what is wanted.

The technique, the study, the invovement is all individual.

Peace!

Your questions involves two very seperate things.

1. Peace of mind and
2. Mind control

Peace of mind is a feeling, knowing that you are not responsible for something, in other words you can sleep well at night because your conscious mind knows that you did no harm.

If you hurt people, (words, fists, robbing) by whatever means and have a conscious then you will not have peace of mind, you may fool yourself into saying it doesn't matter, that they deserved it, but you will develop malaise and it will come back to haunt you, things usually come full circle like eternity.

Mind control is trying to get people to believe what you believe through imposing fear and abuse, abusive people know this very well and work gently at first and then know when you are at the breaking point, and this is when you see wives returning to what they know will only be worst behavior from their spouse than before because the wife dared to free herself. Mind control is also part of the different sects like the Jones' town people who followed a man and reverred him out of fear and abuse. It is difficult to understand, how people can get that way but it has been documented, another was a commune in the 70's Rock Theriault had more than 7 concubines and over 22 children, the women were all subjected to mind control from abuse, attorcious abuse, and living conditions. "Very Bad Men" aired a documentary about this individual who is still in prison by the way. \\

So you see you two very different things.

Also who are the self assumed godly persons I have never heard of anyone calling themselves that, are you talking about priests, they enter an order, they have to study like a doctor has to in order to become priests or ministers as well. It is not something they decide to become overnight and the next day get the dress code (black robe with white color) and say "I;m a priest now" although I agree that they must show their faith and adhere to ceremonies that may fall under what some consider to be mind control.

But the individual chooses to be a Christian, one does not choose to be a Catholic one is baptised at birth taking away the choice, one chooses to follow the teachings of Christ and to believe in this great Teacher and His message of the Kingdom of His Father, if you hear the message and know that it is true you know that you have been chosen, for no one can go to the Father except through Jesus. Peace be with you and Merry Christmas.

I have a technique that works for me. whenever your mind is going to upsetting thoughts, force yourself to think of the numbers 0 through 9. In your mind, picture each number in the greatest detail possible. Stay on these images and your uncomfortable thoughts will dissipate.

This,in a sense is a form of meditation. I prefer this method to picturing a serene landscape or any other pretty picture in your head because the rules are defined and your effort is concentrated on a specific task.
