I live in Long Island, NY and work in Manhattan. The commute time is about 1 1/2 (all public trans). I wake up at 5am to catch a 6:30am train to arrive at the office by 8am.
I leave the office anywhere between 5:30 and 6:30; the latest I get home is around 8pm ... about an hour or so before I need to get to sleep to get up for the next work day.
With this schedule, where can I find 30 minutes to get some daily excersize? Did I mention if I get home at 8 pm I either have a slice of pizza or cereal?
Thanks for the advice!

You are supposed to get 30 minutes of exercise a day in theory. I have heard from a lot of sources that you can break this up in 10 minute incriments. That makes it a little easier. You could climb your stairs, if you have them, for ten minutes before work or during your lunch break. You could walk back and forth waiting for the bus or subway or whatever.

It's the little things. Taking the stairs rather than the elevator. You don't take a car, but parking that farther in the lot and hiking to your office. You could go for a walk on your lunch hour. Don't email as much, instead take things over to people in person.

It's not a spinning class, but it'll still get you moving and feeling better about yourself.

1. get a different job...yes you are in control of this
2. learn isometrics and do it on the train or bus..yes, there are things you can do...
2a you have a lunch at work and in new york you can walk walk walk the whole lunchtime.
3. get an apartment close to your job.
you have weekends...you can exercise for 4 hours each day on the weekend.
3a stop putting on makeup, shaving your legs, fixing your hair etc. and spend that time exercising.
4. you can exercise (at a gym) and eat in the city (bring something) before you go home. so you can go straight to bed when you get home.
the bottom line is we make time for what we want to do.
you are choosing to spend your weekdays traveling and working.
you decide your priorities.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't handle that type of schedule..I am from the midwest where things are a little slower and we have time to do things like that, go to the Y and go out to eat.. Maybe you just need to change your life and live somewhere else or move closer to work...

why not work out after you get home? most gyms don't close until about 10 PM during the week so you could get 2 hours of excercise in during the day.

I try to eat a light lunch and then go to the gym for 30mins. Or you can use the stairs going up and down, do this for 30mins. Or walk during your breaktime. Or when you go home, try to jog a couple of blocks.

The only way I see is to move closer to work so you have a shorter commute.
