I believe that compasion should not only exist one day of the year like you said.. I personally think Christmas is a ridiculous holiday. It's not even the actual day Jesus was born on. This day was chosen by the Romans so that it would fit into their calendar. I believe its supposed to be the longest day of the year.

Christmas can really only be understood by the people who celebrate it, just like Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. To Christians, Christmas is the greatest holiday on the face of the Earth. People of other religions just see it as a day to drink eggnog, get presents, and talk about that big guy in the sky. It's just the same with any other holiday. Take Muslims, for example. They fast on Ramadan (I think it's Ramadan, at least). To me, it's a couple of days where you don't eat until night. But that's just because I'm not a Muslim and I don't fully understand the customs. See how it works?

The origin of the word holiday is "holy" + "day". There was a time when holiday actually meant holy day and not max-out the credit card at the shopping mall sale or paid 1 day vacation.

It just so happens that at this time of year, the winter solstice, people would celebrate and exchange gifts. This has been going on for centuries.

As far as believing in Jesus, I've never seen my great-great-grandfather but I believe he exists.

It's not just a holiday and a true christian will help poor and hungry people anytime it's just more advertised this time of year.Believing in Jesus is not by sight its by faith. A lot of people forget the true meaning of Christmas if you really except Jesus in your heart and learn more about him you will understand him more.As for presents I really don't mind if anyone don't give give me anything the heart is about giving not receiving. I already received the best gift of all when Jesus saved me by his grace.I will pray that you will receive Jesus and believe in him by faith.
God Bless you, Seek him you will know him.

Live and let live, I say Asja... If they want to get all holy and celebrate Christmas, let them have their fun. If you want to party and give presents , let you have yours.

There is good and bad to religion. A lot of churches do an awful lot of good things, and a lot do a lot of bad things. I don't see that it is a bad thing for them to spend their time worrying about the poor. Let them be.

Mercury, the 21st is the shortest day of the year. Here in Australia is it the longest.

Because it's the celebration of Christ birth. If you are not into it; don't fret it. People are helping people every day; you just have to read more. Here's one:

Rick and Kay Warren give away 90 percent of their income through three foundations: Acts of Mercy, which serves those infected and affected by AIDS; Equipping the Church, which trains church leaders in developing countries; and The Global PEACE Fund, which fights poverty, disease, and illiteracy.

Our culture is becoming increasingly secularized—there seems to be a broad range of people who do not know who Jesus truly is. Yet this December, most of the world will celebrate His birth. Who is He?

Who is Jesus ...

... that some of the greatest architectural achievements in Europe were built in which to worship Him? ... that some of the world’s most beautiful art and music were created to honor and praise Him? ... that less than 400 years after Rome crucified Him, He was acknowledged as the only god in the Roman Empire? ... that Alexander Solzhenitsyn, rotting in a Siberian work camp, says the very thought of Him was enough to keep his sanity? ... that people all over the world say He has saved them from drugs, illness, suicide, depression and other ills?

... that in His name, people forsake personal gain to feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the naked and heal the sick?

Who is He?

Why is Jesus so offensive to some and so pleasing to others? So wrong to some and so right to others? So controversial to some and so necessary to others?

In the midst of all the busyness, loneliness, religiousness and happiness, would you celebrate the real meaning of Christmas this year by keeping your focus on who Jesus is?

He Is the Incarnation of God’s Greatness
Read John 1:1-18
Who is the Word that John 1:1 refers to? See John 1:14.
He Is the Same as God

He Is the Incarnation of God’s Grace
Read John 1:16-18

Grace refers to the blessings of God that we don’t deserve. It has been defined by this acrostic: Great Riches At Christ’s Expense.
Name some of God’s blessings you don’t deserve that give evidence of the fullness of His grace as referred to in John 1:16. See also Ephesians 1:3.

What was the basic purpose of God’s law? Compare John 1:17 with Galatians 3:19-25.

What was the effect of the law? See Ephesians 2:1-3.

How does grace deliver us from the law’s condemnation? See Ephesians 2:4-9.

Write out John 1:18 in very simple words that a child could understand.

Google history about the so-called Christian event known as Christmas. It is of pagan origin, and started in the old Roman empire and was implicated in sun worship, not Son worship.
