I know if I went around trying to turn people into Atheists I'd get death threats or get assaulted.

Religious families don't allow their kids to "decide" for themselves either. I have the right to raise my children any way I like just as religious folks do.

They will never stop. It is their religious duty to convert others to the path of righteousness. They are just sheep following the shepard (priest/pastor). They just regurgitate everything he says without question, because enough questions lead to answers that are not there. I do have one theory though...

It sounds twisted, but you should read the Bible. If you read the Bible and find the holes in their belief system you can mess with them. I went to Catholic school so I had to read it.

I find religious people get really miffed when you poke holes though their religion. I've actually manage to steer someone away from religion. It was really amusing after that happened because the religious nuts at work just stopped talking to me after that.

My favorite one is the story about God the baby killer. When God helped free the Israelites from the Egyptians he killed the first born of Egypt. A loving and omnipotent god wouldn't have killed babies. Logically, he would have done something else if he is both loving and omnipotent.

Bring stuff up like that to them and your kids. They'll be too freaked out to talk to you or have their kids talk to your kids about religion.

Religious people are just like telemarketers... you can get annoyed or you can annoy them and amuse yourself.

Religion has a way of stirring people up. They can get really frothy about stuff. I think it's some of the language they use, particularly fundamentalists of any religion. They have the urgency of some of their most outrageous beliefs behind their actions: like the devil is lurking around every corner to try and ruin people, or that certain events happening (which have always happened anyway) is a signal that the end of the world is coming. Christians talk about being "on fire for Jesus." Atheists are not "on fire for reason." I think there's something calming about taking a rational approach to everything.

I'm with David - go on the attack. Apparently many people think it's perfectly okay for them to do this to your children. I can't help but notice that at least three respondents to your question said that YOU are wrong about this, and chose to tell filthy lies about atheists (and on Christmas Day yet...). You should not let people like that have access to your children, and yes, when you confront them you should treat them like child molesters. That kind of behavior is the moral equivalent of raping a child, and should not be tolerated at all.

Tell them it's your right to raise your children the way you want to, and they should keep their noses out of your personal life. The religious people can wait until your children are of an age of majority (18 or 21).

Well ...as Atheist as I am, I hate it when Parents label their Children...Your kids aren't atheist just because you say they are....you have to give them the ability to study and search for the answers all on their own. Just like telling your child he is mormon or Catholic....they aren't until they decided to be. Thats the whole point. The best thing to do is let your kids figure it out....forcing never works. If you kids were really Atheist they would know how to defend themselves.

I don't think it is that important that you should worry about it. I would imagine that , as an Aetheist, you have come to your conclusions through research, well let them have access to research too. The important thing is that they are not coerced into religion, that they realise there are other opinions, and that everyone is open to discussing it without forcing ideas down anyone's throat.

This is how it works, many kids grow up in christian homes and later decide to become pagan. Their parents naturally don't approve. The answer is you don't stop them. Your life and belief will affect your children but ultimately the choice will be theirs.

Tell your kids that there will be people convincing them otherwise. Tell them to follow their heart. You shouldn't be trying to prevent them from learning about religions though. That is a personal choice. You wouldn't want your mother forcing you to believe a certain thing. Learning about different religions is wonderful, and definately educational.

Im agnostic, but you should still let them learn if they want to

They are like the Borg. They will not stop, so it is important to teach your children how pathetic these people really are so that when confronted by them, they can let them know in no uncertain terms that they are one child that will not buy the delusional pile of crap which is religious belief. This retort works well, "Bite me, you delusional brainless twit.". That usually startles them long enough for your child to get away. They can always scream and shout "rape", that sends them running away too.

Do what I do. VERBALLY ATTACK the person approaching you and/or your children. Say words like "you and a prostitute do the same thing; approach people on the streets." "Your religion is a FALSE religion." "DO you read the Bible.?" Then say "it says in the bible from Jesus "GO NOT, DOOR TO DOOR/"

I mind my own business. But if you approach my car while stopped in traffic, at the line in a fast food restaurant, while pumping gas, even in a city park (especially if you send your kid over in a suit to talk to me), YOU WILL get a very loud verbal assault from me.

Hear that, Jehova's Witnesses????
You stopped coming to my door, because your church finally wrote down that I WILL give you a flood of profanity when you ring my door bell and try to give me your watchtower.
