Ah, yes. "It's a lover's question! I'd like to know!" (a song with those lyrics) - - It's in his kiss. (the song's answer - the RIGHT answer - a gentle kiss is affection, a passionate kiss is desire - or "lust").
If you are just getting started in a relationship, you will know if he likes you by they way he TREATS you. If he treats you with respect, considers what YOU want and how YOU feel, then he likes you. If he asks you out, he may just find you desirable - physically attractive - and that's different from 'like-ing' you. There is nothing WRONG with physical attraction, that is not a warning sign - it is the first step - for both of you - to fiind out if you "like" each other.
If he takes liberties (or tries to), or 'tells' you what the two of you are going to do, or otherwise "takes charge" - then it is just likely he "want's" you. In which case, BEWARE! Lust - sexual desire - on EITHER side, is NOT a good foundation for a lasting relationship - neither is just plain being lonely.
Does he like you? If he is polite and considerate, he probably does. If he's rude and / or inconsiderate, or suggestive or vulgar or crude or demanding, tighten your chasity belt and RUN!

Ask his buddies when he is absent they do do not tell you can be a very large indicator and if you knwo hm at least somewhat you can figure out the not-so-obvious signs of him liking someone then see if he displays those around yourself then compare notes with your friends and see what does or does not add up.
