There is lot of resistance in India for BT hybrids but we understand the future revloves round the above fact.

All these and other articles seem to have a common theme. The people that oppose genetically modifies rice have a bunch of worry about what if this or that happened. What none of them have been able to show was any real harm to the ecosystem or anything else.
What I can promise you is that if humans withdrew from the land where the genetically modified rice was, it would soon be extinct because the wild rice was fit for the environment and the genetically modified was not.

Define harm..

Typically GM varieties are created to need less water/fertilizer etc. so typically yield is greater. Since we are unable to distribute food well enough to avoid starvation in some parts of the world, it seems better that GM crops be planted in these parts.

As for the rest of the world - well in these parts that operate a Democratic / Capitalist system we allow individuals (& market forces) to make their own minds up.
