E= 20v
Between point a and piont b is R1 =1000
Between point b and point c is R2=600
Between point c and point d is R3=400
I got 6v between b and c
I got 4v between c and d
Now what?

10 volts. This sound like the Resistors are in series. R1=1000 and R2 + R3=1000 so, 10 volts will be drop across the R1 and 10 volts drop across R2 & R3.

u hv not given the terminals of E=20v.

So, assuming that the battery(voltage source) i.e. E=20v is connected between the terminals a and b. U draw the electrical network following each part of the question.

the voltage to be measured is between b and d . So , looking through the output terminals b and d ,

We find branches bc and cd are in series .

The series branches ; bc : ( 6v, 600 ohms) and cd : (4v , 400 ohms) can be reduced to single branch.

The resultant single branch is bcd :

NOTE : when two resistors R1 and R2 are connected in series ,
the resultant resistance is R1+R2.

So, the branch bd has resistance of 600+400 = 1000 ohms .

The voltage sources are also to be added , 6v+4v=10v

therefore , the resultant branch bcd consists of 1000 ohms and 10v.

Now the network is reduced to two parallel branches ab and bcd,
as seen from terminals b and d..

Now , the superposition law is applied to calculate the current in each branch.

STEP 1: Replace the voltage source in branch bcd with its
equivalent internal resistance which is zero in this
case . So , the current is 20v / (1000+1000) = 10mA


STEP 2: Remove the voltage source in branch ab i.e. 20v
The current is 10v/(1000+1000) = 5mA.

Now, applying superposition law the resultant current ( Taking into account the direction of the current flow , which is opposite in this case) is : 10mA - 5mA = 5 mA

The voltage at point b is 20v - (5mA*1000ohms) = 20-5 = 15v.

The voltage at point d is 15v - (5mA*1000ohms) - 10v =0v

Therefore , the voltage drop between point b and point d is = 15v

Ans : 15v

First guy had it right, with resistors in series

Voltage drop across 600 Ohm R2 resistor is 6V
Voltage drop aross 400 Ohm R3 resistor is 4V
So the total Votage drop from b to d is 6V + 4V = 10V this is your answer

Voltage drop across remaining R1 resistor (point a to point b)can be calculated too....It must be 10V because 20V - the 10V calculated above leaves 10V

It's 10 volts. The first dude who answered this explained that for you. Now this second guy is just giving you a hard time. Ignore him.
