As long as you are polite you can say with a smile, "I have really enjoyed your company ." Then you stand and lead them toward the door or gather their coats. (If done cordially it works perfectly) Guests don't want to intrude and may need a little nudge afterall you are taught not to "eat and run."

Unless you are very sick, there is no polite way to let them know it's time to leave. That would be very rude. You are very lucky to have good friends, so just think of it as a small sacrifice to endure the company a little longer even if you are tired.

If there is one thing we all know about guests, they never seem to want to help with the cleaning. Simply start cleaning up and not taking part in the conversation. They will get the message.

When you're ready for them to leave, just say"I sure hope you enjoyed the meal, but I'm ready to call it a night".If they don't get that hint just go ROUND THE HOUSE AND START TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF AND TELL THEM GOOD NIGHT...............

Its nice to know your so much fun and your home is so inviting that people don't want to leave..but just let them know that its "time to go"...tell them you "have to go to bed". Surely they can understand that? Be sure and let them know that you enjoy there company and to have a good night!

If it's late, I think it's charming to say (with a smile, of course) "I had better get to bed, so that you nice folks can go home." If you live with someone else, you can look at that person and say it to them, like "We'd better get to bed, so that these nice folks can go home."
