Not really, but there are plenty of websites that will tell you "yes" and take your money. You can safely lose no more than 2 actual pounds in 1 week. You may also be able to lose some water weight. Start any reasonable diet.

To lose weight you must take in less calories then you burn. Here's how I can manage to lose 3-5lbs over a weekend.
I am a vegetarian to start (no meat period..fish & chicken are meat!). Don't eat any meat or any type of sweets and junk food (cookies cakes chips etc). Eat vegetables.. whichever kind you prefer. You can eat a can of green beans and it will be a lot less calories then a donut, keep this in mind. You'll feel full but you'll take in less calories. Ok so this is step one, taking in less calories.
Step 2: Burn more calories. You don't need exercise equipment! When you go to the store, don't park in the closest paking spot to the door, park the furtherst away and walk to the store (you'd be amazed over time how many calories you'll burn). Take the stairs avoid elevators. You don't have to set aside time to exercise, just do small things that will make you have to walk a bit farther.
Good luck! I've managed to lose 45lbs from May to Dec of 2004 and to keep it off by being a vegetarian (I eat cheese, no milk, eggs or meat). Sometimes my weight fluctuates by a few pounds but by cutting back my calories and exercising a little more (like I mentioned above) I can easily drop the 4 or 5lbs I may have gained. This way I don't deprive myself and I can keep my weight under control. :) (Boy did it feel great to wear a bikini in Aruba and actually look good in it at 104lbs!)

Sorry. You do not have enough time to get in shape. That takes at least 6 weeks of discipline.
However, you can appear slimmer. Cut out salt and drink more water for the next week and you can get rid of excess bloat. Also, for a New Years Eve party you can wear a bodyslimmer or girdle to look more toned.
