Alot of your answer will depend on if you have a condition where you are really having pain or just addicted to the substance. I am not being sarcastic, I am being serious. If it is an addiction then you will have to go through the normal addiction process and there is no way to make that pleasant but it is well worth the discomfort to be substance free. In the other senerio, if you have a condition that keeps you in pain you will need to find another way to manage the pain before you try to kick the habbit. Modern technology has come very far with this. There are several alternatives. One you might want to discuss with your doctor is a constant release topical patch, that way you could kick the habbit without suffering in pain. I wish you all the best in this difficult endevour, I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!

The BEST way I have heard of to get off these terrible things is to see if your Dr will prescribe you Suboxone. I think that is how they spell it. It is the best way to stop the dependancy of Pain Killers.
I have been prescribed Oxycodone for 5 years now and will be the rest of my life, but if I was to get better and stop taking them I would have a major withdrawel affect my Dr told me. So what he does is puts you on the bubinpron program for about 6-12 months. SLowly lowering the dosage you take. The great thing about them is they take away and URGES you may hve to do your loracets and they also work well on pain.
There are two kinds Orange and White. IF you are pregnant you will get white, if not you will get Orange.
I have seen these help many people I know that grew dependant on their medications and needed help getting off of them without going into a state of shock from the sudden withdrawel.
Check this site out on it: http://www.suboxone.com/patients/suboxone/
I really think it is your best bet before having to check into a detox clinic where i hear they treat everyone the same as if they are a drug addict and my Doctor told me that there is a huge differance between a drug addict and a prescription dependancy.
I hope this helps/

~Congratualtions on realizing you need to get off of them. I'm prescribed it to take twice a day and if I were to take them as prescribed, I would be in your shoes.
I have other medications to help with my pain though, for arthritis. I would recommend cutting the pills in half, or 3/4 and slowly cutting back. It will take time and determination, but you can do it.
If you do it too fast, you won't like it! You might have seizures or something.
I hope the best for you, Merry Christmas~

regrettably, hydrocodone is definitely addicting. Been there, completed that. i think of that part of the habit is which you like the way it makes you sense. in case you may take the pills to sense "time-honored" is while it somewhat is going to become a subject. whether you're no longer "abusing" them there's a reliable danger that in case you maintain taking them shop taking them on a conventional foundation turning out to be addicted is amazingly probably. you will additionally advance a tolerance and you proceed enormously quickly it somewhat is going to take 2 then 3 to get the comparable effect as a million did once you started taking them. it somewhat is all downhill from there. i replaced into addicted to the painkiller Darvon for greater years that i can count form. i began out with a million and, after an excellent form of years, labored my way as much as 40 pills at a time. loopy. appropriate? yet while to procure to that factor I had geared up up one in each of those tolerance that what could have killed me in basic terms made me sense "time-honored". i eventually ran out of valid the right thank you to get them so i began phoning in my very own prescriptions and ended up in reformatory (distinctive circumstances). Please in no way, EVER try this. I wasted maximum of years in that vicious circle. that's probably way greater desirable than you wanted to appreciate. you're so youthful that I hate to think of roughly all that b.s. taking place to you (or absolutely everyone else). pay attention!!!!! in basic terms considering you're no longer abusing them however the possibility is tremendous that it ought to grow to be a subject. all of us have some YETS we've not completed. yet undergo in suggestions which you're ELIGIBLE TOO (yet). good luck.

Cognitive therapy got me out of depression and off of alcohol. I heard in alcohol rehab that alcohol addiction is as powerful as heroin addiction, so getting off the hydrocodone should be a piece of cake. Here's a book that will teach you cognitive therapy: http://www.seekwellness.com/bookstore/books/book65.htm
BTW... in response to above... CT teaches you self esteem, self confidence, and a whole lot more. I can't begin to tell you how it's improved my life. It's like Scientology without all the baggage.

Have you thought about entering rehab??? getting off pain meds is vrey very hard. Withdrawl is awful but can be done at home. You will be sick at your stomach for about 3 o 5 days maybe even a week, as your body gets used to not having the drug in your system. Call a therapist or your family dr. they can advise you see one of them for sure. Best of luck to you
