I think your hubby should stick with organic wines. They are sulfite free and better for his health. The Frey line of wines are excellent. They have white zinfandel, merlot, pinot noir, reds, and great white wines.

I wouldn't count on Merlot alone to beat cancer, but there are other (generally minor) health benefits, it won't hurt the cancer situation any, and a nice glass of wine just generally improves your quality of life.
That said, if you're looking for a Merlot for everyday use, I wouldn't pay anything like $90 a bottle. Yellow Tail makes a servicable Merlot that every grocery store in America carries, for about $8.
I think, though, that if this is really a lifestyle choice, you just need to keep trying different ones every week, until you find one he (and maybe you) can really enjoy. Merlot is remarkably common, a lot wineries makes it; a quick seach of winejockey.com came up with 60 choices.
Wine is an adventure, every crop, at every winery is a little bit different. A great wine in 2005, may only be a fair wine this year if they didn't get just the right mixture of sun and moisture.
If you're really worried about getting it "right" find a local store with a good wine selection (preferably a wine store, or a liquor store that is at least half wine) and tell them you're looking for a good Merlot and you don't want to spend more than about $25, you'll be fine...but I think there's an opportunity to to have a little "fun" with this if you can.

Ma'am,
There seem to be a lot of good answers. Let me give you this piece of advice as someone who holds a degree in oenology (the study of wine).
Your question is: "can anyone recommend a good wine".
Go buy three bottles of Merlot in various price ranges. Whichever one your husband likes is a "good wine".
Too often people buy a wine simply because it is receives an arbitrary score from some magazine. In a blind test, I guarantee you that it won't always be the most expensive wine that you like. And wine evolves as well, so the bottle you taste one day, won't taste the same tomorrow, or in a year.
Just relax, enjoy, and buy the wine your husband likes.
Oh, and as a side note, the other thing that helps naturally cure diseases, such as cancer, is *laughter*. Laughing has a curative effect on the body, and I'd recommend getting some comedy shows in.
Hope your husband recovers swiftly.
Regards,
Mysstere

Any red wine will be good for your husband's and your health. The active ingridient is called resveratrol and is found in reds and not so much in whites.
More info on the health benefits of red wine can be found on the links bellow.
Remember, your health will benefit from half to one glass of wine, more will do more damage than good.
As for wine shoping, try the link bellow, if you live in the states you can order online or at least you can get educated about it (and see the prices to quality ratios).
Health and hapiness in the New Year for you and your man.

I personally like Yellowtail Merlot. Try eating some dark chocolate with it for even more anti-oxidants as well as a nice treat.

Why not try a nutritional supplement that contains grape seed extract? You get the same effect as wine from the seed extract and you get the extra vitamins and minerals and antioxidants you need on a daily basis. I know of one that is in a liquid form where your body can absorb it more quickly and it works wonders for me...

You need to drink a lot to be able to differentiate. A $90 dollar bottle is pretty average, though.
