Ethiopia is helping out the Somali government with their Islamic Fanatic problem. Bullets when bought in bulk are cheaper than cows.

The armed forces operating in Ethiopia and Somalia are comprised largely of elderly Russian weapons. Lethal, yes, but expensive, no.
The weapons are so ancient, as regards to target acquistion capabilities, communications etc, that a few battalions of well-equipped troops could stop the war in a week. Egypt and Turkey are competent military powers in this geographical area - 2 brigades with air support, from each of these nations?

Ireland has been very competent in their military contributions to the United Nations. Could the UN not pay Ireland to expand her forces for UN duties. The Irish soldier can be quite a nasty piece of work - they can do the 'hearts and minds' as well. The Irish switch from being combative to consoling in the flick of an eyebrow.

from what the western media is asserting this is approximately... (word: I had to decipher the words in accordance to my international view) Somalia is being taken over via Islamic fundamentalists (hardcore) Ethiopia is attempting to help the puppet government of Somalia to stay in skill Iran is assisting the Somali (SICC) usa is assisting the Ethiopian invaders that are protecting the shaky Somali government who stirred up the hornets nest? america & Iran. The Iraq conflict has radicalized youthful Muslims around the international 9/11 assaults on the WTC has embolden the Muslim international america militia business enterprise is rather happy approximately that because of the fact $$$ Now america has a good excuse to establish large militia Bases all over the middle East and Africa. It began out because of the fact of OIL now this is; 'all Islamic territory must be conquered and subjugated.'

Neither was it right for US GI's and the VC's they were fighting
against to be killed by US made weapons. Don't worry though
you will find that everything is fair in love and war, and why
because all the values drop when it comes to making a quick
buck.Years ago it was called foreign trade ie agricultural material
But if you look at the label closely you will probably find
Kalashnikov etc etc

No. It is right that Ethiopia and Somalia are at war with expensive weapons sold to them at a significant discount by the U.S, the U.K., China, Russia and France.

I'm afraid so, those in power as in many "non oil" countrys are using their money to kill each other rather than save their own as the governments simply do not care. A lot of "aid" from western countrys has actually been waisted on buying these weapons from Western countrys, which is why it is better to donate via Oxfam or a similar charity as this money is used directly on the people it is supposed to be rather than via its government

It has been some time since starvation was anything but political. Remember Somalia when the US sent in troops? It was a matter of which warlord stole the food shipments first. This has long been true of a large part of Africa.

no, it's not right. that's the bottom line.

but that's the problem with having members of government that are so removed from the lives of the people they are supposed to be searving.

it's a massive shame. too many african governments are run by people who experienced extreme poverty and have grown selfish in power because of it. lack of education is also rife, as is greed.

it's horrifici what some governments are doing to their own people through simply ignoring things they can do something about let alone militancy.

I guess it is just high tech tribal warfare.
It is a different century with newer weapons, but the mentality seems to be the same in that region.
If they have the laws to discourage violent behavior then they must lack the ability or will to enforce the laws.
Gee, I think I just described the United Nations.

not just those two countries, but pretty much every country with an army...
check out the poverty in each country that has advanced weapon systems, and you'll find that there are alot more countries than just those two...

america as an example, with a defense buget of i don't know how much, yet there are people living in the streets, people not having affordable healthcare... yeah

take your pick
